Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEQ I "JOHN MGGILL, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVED SOLUTION TO BE APPLIED T0 COTTON. LINEN, AND OTHER FABRICS TO PREVENT THEM FROM BURNING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 54,382, dated May 1, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MOGILL, of the city of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and Stateof Massachusetts, have invented a Mode of Preventing all Combustible Materials, Substances, and Fabrics from Burning by the application of the herein-named chemical.
Asolution containing ten per centum of crystallized salt of the sulphate of ammonia is a perfect preservative. All linen and cotton and silk fabrics steeped in a solution of the abovenamed chemical will resist flame. It does not offer any resistance to the iron during the process of smoothing, neither does it change the color or texture of the fabric upon which it is employed.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The application of the aforesaid chemical to all combustible substances, materials, and fabrics, as in the above manner described and for the purposes set forth.
JOHN MOGILL.
