SIDNEY D. KINGSLEY, OF DELEVAN, NEIV YORK.
COMBINATION lR ONlNG-TABLE AND WASHBENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 540,392, dated June 4, 1 895.
Application filed February 16, 1895! Serial No. 538,649- (No model.)
To all whom it mag concern.-
Be it known that I, SIDNEY D. KINGSLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Delevan, in the county of Oattaraugus and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination Ironing-Table and Washbench; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combination ironing tables and wash benches, and the especial object of the invention is to produce a folding ironing table, the top of which may be quickly and easily removed and the framework converted into a wash bench on which tubs or baskets may be supported and a wringer board being provided midway the bench.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of means for holding the tub or basket supports in a horizontal plane when the device is being used for a bench, and the folding of the various parts into a compact shape for economizing room in storage.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the novel combination, and adaptation of the parts as will be. hereinafter more clearly de scribed and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughoutthe several views, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device used as an ironing-table; Fig. 2 a bottom plan view of the ironing-board. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the invention adapted for use as a Washbench.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A, A, designate two of the legs of the device which are hinged to the legs A, A at a a, the said legs A being shorter than the legs A, and B is a wringer board connecting the upper ends of the longer legs A. The tops of the shorter legs A, bear against the side of the wringer board, when the legs are at their widest spread. Pivoted to the legs at the points 0 are ,the racks C having the cross pieces 0'. E is the top or ironing board having on its under side the cleats F, and G at, or near the ends of the board, and the cleats H and H near the center. The outer cleats F and G are designed to engage over the cross'pieces of the racks O, and the wringer board to be inserted between the two cleats H and H, ready for use. When it is desired to use the board for ironing articles as shirts, which have to be drawn over the end of the board, one of the racks may be lowered down.
When the device is arranged for use as a wash bench the top is removed, the two racks brought to a horizontal position, the recessed portions 70, k, on the upper surface of one of the racks engaged by the pins J, J, on the legs A, A, and when the racks are folded up the recesses R receive the pins J. The pins N at the inner end of one of the racks abut against the pins J when the racks are held horizontallv.
It will thus be seen that when the invention is arranged for use as a wash bench, provision is made for holding a tub on one rack and a basket on the other and a wringer may be attached to the wringer board between the two.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In combination, the pivoted legs A and A, wringer board B,secured to the upper ends of the said legs A, the racks O pivoted to the supporting legs, and the pins J, one of the racks being provided with recesses R designed to receive said pins, when the rack is closed, and the other rack provided with recesses to receive said pins when the racks are held in a horizontal plane, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SIDNEY D. KINGSLEY.
