PATENT ()FFICE.
COMBINED WASHBENCH AND lRONING-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 732,585, dated June 30, 1903.
Application filed December 19, 1902. Serial No. 135,885- (No model.) I
To on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR J. REINHARDT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at City View, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Washbench and Ironing- Board, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combined washbenches and ironing-boards, and has for its primary object to construct a device which may be advantageously employed as an ironing-table and when not desired for use for such purpose as readily convertible for use as a washbench or bench for other desired purpose. Briefly described, the invention embodies the table-or board and extensible folding legs for supporting the same, these legs being arranged in pairs connected in a manner whereby the lower sections of the legs may be folded independently of the upper sections of the legs in order to permit .the use of the device as a bench or extended for use as an ironingboard and both sections of the legs capable of folding toward the underneath face of the board, so that the device will occupy but little space when stored. I
Such being the invention broadly stated, I
will proceed to describe the same in detail,
and in this description will have reference to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and wherein like numerals of reference will beemployed for indicating like parts throughout the different views, in which Figure 1 is a detail perspective viewof my improved combination bench and ironingboard, showing the same in the extended position for use as an ironing-board. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the lower sections of the legs folded, whereby the device may be used as a bench. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device in thefolded form.
To put my invention into practice, I provide a suitably-shaped board 1, forming the table. The underneath face of this board carries near each end cleats 3 4, to which are secured by hinges 2 the upper sections 5 of the supporting-legs. These supporting-leg sections are braced by upper braces 6 and lower braces 7, which latter carry eyes 8 to receive the hook ends of brace-rods 9, pivoted at their upper ends to the underneath face of the board or table 1. Connected to the upper sections 5 of the supporting-legs by pivot-pins lO are the lower sections 11 of the supporting-legs, braced on the inner edges by upper braces 12 and adjacent their lower ends by outer braces 14. It is to be noted that the lower sections of the legs are pivoted inside the upper sections of the supportinglegs and that the upper braces 12 are of a length equal to the width from one outside face to the other outside face of one leg-section 5, so that the ends of the braces 12 project beyond the outer faces of the leg-sections 11, and these projecting ends of the braces 12 carry spring-catches 15, which when the leg-sections 11 are extended, as shown in Fig. 1, engage with the outer edge of the legsections 5, and thus hold the legs in the extended position. When the leg-sections 11 are folded in the form shown in'Fig. 2, they are held against dropping by spring-catches 16, which engage with pins 17, carried by the leg-sections 11, the spring-catches 16 being carried by the board or table 1. The leg-sections 11 may be readily folded, so that the lower ends of the leg-sections 5 will rest upon the supporting medium, and when desired to store the device the legs all fold toward the board or table, as seen in Fig. 3, so as to 00'- cupy but comparatively small space, being.
held by hook 17.
While I have herein shown and described the invention in detail, yet it will be evident that in the practicing of the invention various slight changes may be made without departing from the general spirit of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi In a device of the character described, the combination of a board or table, upper sections of legs hinged thereto, lower sections of legs pivoted to the upper sections, brace-rods connecting the upper sections of legs to the In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
