METAL FASTENING FOR COVERINGS FOR FEET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 539,469, dated May 21, 1895.
Application filed February 7,1894. Serial No. 499,356. (No model.) Patented in England $eptember 23, 1892, N0. 16,978, and in France June 26, 1893,1T0. 231,111-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL ARTHUR BERRY, asubject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Northampton, in the county of Northampton, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Metal Fastenings for Coverings for the Feet, (for which I have obtained' patents in Great Britain, No. 16,978, dated September 23, 1892, and in France, No. 231,111, dated June 26, 1893,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved metal fastening for the soles and heels of coverings for the feet, and has for its object to produce a metal fastening which is light, serves both as a blinder and nail and is not liable to become loose or'work itself through as heretofore has been the case, vI attain this object by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-*- Figures 1 and 2 are side views; and Fig. 3 is.a plan of Fig. 2, showing on an enlarged scale my improved fastening.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In carrying out this invention and referring to the figures generally my improved metal fastening consists of a double pointed nail, or nail having two shanks a with a flange or shoulder b in or about the middle thereof, which serves as a head and positions itself between the different soles, middle sole or upper, or the lifts and top piece of the heel, and also fastening made heels. The said nail I form of sheet metal, say of sheet brass, steel, or iron, by stamping out blanks having .each two points or shanks a, as shown in Fig. 1, and afterward twisting the same so as to bring their edges at, a right angle to each other and produce a shoulder or head I) in or about the middle thereof, as shownin Figs. 2 and 3. The edges of the said nail may be plain, as shown in the drawings, or barbed or serrated to affo'rd'special resistance in the leather when so required.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sheet metal fastening for coverings for the feet having two shanks a in line with each otherand a shoulder or head 1) between the same the inner ends of the said shanks crossing each other at the shoulder or head 19, substantially as set forth.
