To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NELSON P. BRADISH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Walkers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

The object of my invention is first to raise and lower the seat in position; second, to increase and decrease the flexibility of the chair supporting spring; and third, to differentiate the movements of the baby walker at will.

My invention further consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, such as will first be fully described and specifically pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings: Figure 1, is a View in perspective of the improved baby walker, showing the second position of the rockers in dotted lines. Fig. 2, is a detail view in section of the base bars upon which the seat support is mounted at its lower end, showing the cam, and the lower portion of the seat support also showing a portion of the side of the base frame. Fig. 8, is a detail view of a portion of the side of the base frame showing the notch in the under side for the collar. Fig. 4:, is a detail view in perspective showing the means for adj ustably securing the rockers to the side bars.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the base frame of the baby walker, comprising the side bars a a, and the cross bars a a upon which is erected four standards 5, b, b, b, which support the usual body guard B, from which body guard is projected the table G. A short distance from the cross-bar a toward the outer end of the side bar a, and

upon the inner side of said bar is pivoted one 6 end of a revoluble strip or cross bar a", the other end of which cross bar is pivoted on the inner side of the bar a, at a corresponding point.

In the strip a equidistant from the side bars a a is a circular groove a, slightly wider than the spring support D. In the revoluble cross bar or strip (t directly opposite the groove 0. is a circular groove d the bottom of which groove is depressed upon one side so as to form a cam 0.. Over the strip a in groove a is extended the folds or the lower end of the spring D, and its leaf d therein between the strip a and the strip a in groove a and bent in a slight degree in a curved line in an upward direction and upon the cam a. Extending around the leaf d, and the lower end of the spring D above the strip a is a sliding clasp 61.

Upon the outer side of the side bar a is ad- 8 5 justably arranged a horizontally extended rocker or guard E, the ends 6, c, of which extend a short distance beyond the respective forward and rear ends of the said side bar, and

rigidly attached a rectangular shaped collar 5 e, which extends around the said side bar a, and fits loosely over the respective shoulders a a a a of the said bar; the portion of said collar on the rocker E, extending a short distance beyond the line of its inner edge. Upon too the forward end of the rocker E is a collar (2 which is attached to the rocker E, at a point opposite the shoulders a a, on said end, and fit over said shoulders in precisely the same manner and extend the same distance from the inner edge of the rocker E, as described by the collar e. Upon the under side portion of the bar a, and between the shoulders a a and the strip a at the rear end of the frame A, is a transverse notch 01, which is slightly wider than the collar 6. Upon the other side of frame A, and upon the outer side of said side bar a, is a rocker E, which is precisely the same in dimensions and provided with collars, which extend around the side bar a, and the shoulders a a in precisely the same manner as upon the rocker E, the under side of the side bar being also provided with a notch between the shoulders and the respective transverse strip a to receive the collar. Upon the under side portion of the rocker E, near the forward end is a caster wheel F, and near the rear end of said rocker is a caster wheel F. To the under side of the rocker E, at both forward and rear ends are caster wheels F, F. Other forms of rollers for traction purposes may be employed. The body ring B is provided with the usual forwardly projecting table G.

In the employment of the nursing tender as described, the child is let down through the body ring or guard B, and seated upon the seat 0, the flexibility of the spring sustaining an ordinary weight without undue depression. Should the depression occur in an increased degree from over weight the clasp d, is moved forward and upward and the leaf d clamped on the supporting spring, and thereby the resistance or tension of the spring is increased. Should it become necessary to raise the position of the seat 0, the revoluble strip a is turned so as to bring the cam a in a position to receive the bearing of the lower end of the spring support D, and to lower the position of the seat the cam is turned away and the collars moved to a position opposite the grooves in each side bar, which permits the rocker to fall into an upright position as seen in dotted lines in Fig. 1, in which position the collars are moved rearwardly and enter the notches and interlock in the under. side of the side bars, and the rockers are held firmly in position during the time the rockers are employed.

In changing the movement of the tender the operation is repeated as described.

Having fully described my invention, what I now claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a baby walker, the combination with a base frame having side bars provided with shoulders and grooves in said side bars near said shoulders of rockers, having collars movably connected with said side bars, and adjustably connected with said shoulders substantially as and for the purpose described.

2. In a baby walker the combination with the base frame of a seat supporting spring plate having the end portion secured to the base frame provided with a leaf extending lengthwise and outwardly from the spring plate and a sliding clasp adapted to draw the said parts together and thereby increase the tension of the spring plate at different points as described.

3. In a baby walker, a base frame having separate transverse revoluble and supporting strips, in juxtaposition, and a spring support for the seat, extending between said strips and a cam on said revoluble strip substantially as and for the purpose described.
