Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
GEORGE F. WRIGHT, OF CLINTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND WM. OER, JR.
FASTENING FOR PAPER BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,800, dated February 20, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. WRIGHT, ot'v Clinton, in the county of Worcester and State ot' Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Fastening the Different Pieces ofPasteboard Together in theConstruction of Paper Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference bei n g had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters eref'erence marked thereon.
The nature of myinvention consists in using` metallic clasps upon the joints of the pieces of pasteboa-rd in the construction of paper boxes, either round, square, or any other shape.
To enable others to understand the method of applying said clasps to the purpose specitied, I will proceed to describe `the operation.
The usual mode of fastening the joints of boxes has been to paste strong paper or cloth overthem, or lap one piece upon another, fastened by gluten or paste, both methods being slow and tedious. I cut my pieces of pasteboard in the shape proper to form the box and bring the joints closely together, and by the useof a machine the clasps are placed across the joint, with a spur either side of said joint, which pass through the pasteboard `and are clinched on the opposite side. The points of said spurs being' turned toward each other in the act of clinching tends to draw the two pieces of pasteboard or the ends of a board more closely together, thus making; a very close joint and rm and strong box-frame, and Very much facilitating' the manufacture of paper boxes. Y
Figure 1 representsy a side elevation ot a round box. The joint in the pasteboard is'represented by the line marked A. The metallic clasps are represented by B B and B B. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 represent three views of the metalI lic clasps.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The application of metallic clasps upon the joints of the pasteboard in paper boxes, substantially as and for the purpose specified. GEORGE F. WRIGHT.
