Patented'FebL-JZO, 18.94.
i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HENRY WILES, OF'DOUGLAS COUNTY, OREGON.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,978, dated February 20, 1894. Application iiled June 12, 893. Serial No. 477.400- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HENRY WILES, of the county of Douglas and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. Y
This invention relates to improvements of the class of plows which are used for general farming purposes, and is as well adapted for plowing level lands as it is for hillsides, of
` which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a detailed View of the plow ready for operation. Fig. 2 shows position of plow while turning. Fig. 3 is intended to show plainly by what ymeans the beam is attached to the plow.
Upright C is a round iron forked at the lower end and is attached to the plows by means of bolts. Brace D is bolted at each end to the shins of the plows and is also attached to the upright C by means of a clamp. Beam E is constructed of four pieces of angle iron as shown in accompanying drawings, being joined together at the front end and attached to clevis F by means of small bolts. Clevis -F-is provided with holes calculated to adjustthe plowtothe required depth. Brace G is bolted to rear end of beam E. Handles -H- are bolted to block I at the lower or front ends and also bolted to brace G. Brace J is bolted at either end to the handles H and is provided with notches to hold lever` or land gage -K. Boxes L. are bolted to the lower and upper sides of beam E provided with v holes large enough to admit upright C which passes through boxes L and projects about one and one-half inches above the top ot` beam E. Collars -M- are attached to upright -C- by means of set screws, being situated between boxes L, and they prevent beam E from sliding up or down on upright -C-. Casting YN is attached to upright C by means ot' set screws. Lever or land gage K is bolted to casting N and extends to brace J being provided with catch and hand hold at either end, and is intended to regulate the plow to or from land, also detaches beam while turning.
I do not claim Letters Patent on the plows themselves, but
What I do claimis- 1. In a reversible plow the combination with e the beam and handles of the standard C having forked lower end secured to the double land sides, boxes L collars M casting N, lever K and rack bar J, substantially as shown and described.
2.' The reversible plows, beam and handles, in combination with the round standard rotatively secured to the beam, boxes L, collars M grooved casting N, the double-end lever K,
rigid to said casting and the rack -J, substantially as shown and described.
