VEIL-FASTENER SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,494, dated October 10, 1893. Application filed June 21, 18:93. ;Serial No, 478,333. (No model.)

To allwhoin it mdy concern: 3 Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY HAR- RISON, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey,"have invented a new i and Improved Veil-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. o

The invention relates to buckles, and its object is to provide a new and improved veil fastener, which is simple and durable in construction,rea dily applied on the ends of the veil to adjust the latter, arranged to greatly facilitate the tying of the veil without danger I of accidental unlocking of the fastening members, and at the same time giving all necessary comfort to' the wearer and heightening the appearance of the veil on the wearers head or head-gear, and permitting an instant unfastening of the veil whenever desired, without extra help. i

Theinvention consistsof two coupling members, each provided with a loop forming veilend adjusters, one of the members being provided with an eye having its front bar widened at or near the middle, to be engaged by a hook on the other member, the said hook being formed of curved bars united by a connecting bar formed with an inward bend.

The-invention also consists of certain parts and details, and combinations of the same, as

willbe hereinafter described and then pointed out ,in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, .111 which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a reduced perspective view of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improvement with theveil ends in position, and the'coupling members locked. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig.

4 is a cross section of the same on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a plan view of a. modified form of the improvement.

Theimproved veil fastener A is provided fwith the two coupling members Band C formed with the loops B and C respectively,

each having a cross bar B or C respectively,

on which double the ends D and D respectively of the veil D, as plaiifly shown in Fig.

2, .thesaid ends after passing around the cross bars being passedunder the outer part "of theflloopis so that the-latter form veil-end adjusters which permit-of drawing the veilends loose or tight to suit the'wearersconvenience. On the release of theextreme ends of the veil the said loops securely holdthe endsof the veil in position, as the bars 13 and O in conjunction with theouter ends of the loops, form clamping devices to-secu rely hold the veil ends in place. v

' On the coupling member B isformed integrally, an eye B on which hooks the hook G formed integral with the other member 0. The

eye B has its outer bar B widened at ornear the middle, as plainly shown in the drawings, and the hook C of the other coupling memher is formed with two bars 0 and O bent over in hook fashion and united at their front ends by a transverse bar, 0 having an inward bend which extends flush with the front face of the bar B at the time the two membersare coupled together and extended in a straight line, as illustrated in Fig.3. By this special arrangement'of. the hook end, the two coupling members are not liable to become accidentally unlocked and hence great security is had for fasteningthe veil in proper position on the head-gear.

; Inorder to unhook the coupling members,

Veil can be drawn tighter, if desired, by a'djusting the ends in the loops B" o'r'C until the veil'is in proper position andsufficient-ly tight to suit the wearers convenience. The free ends of the veil are then tied over th'e'veil den, and hence not visible.

It will'be seenthat the deviceisverysimple and durable in construction, and permits of readilyadjusting the veil to hold the same in proper position without additional .aid.

The device-obviates the use of pins, which frequently tear the veil and are not always on hand when wanted.

The fastener permits of using the veil for I claiinas new and desire to secure by Letters I Patent-- A veil fastener, comprising two coupling members, each provided with a ,loop having a cross bar to form a veil end adjuster, one of the said members being provided with an e'ye'having its front bar widened at or near the middle, and a hook on the other coupling member to engage the said eye, the said hook being formed of two curved bars united at their free ends by'a cross bar formed with an inward bend, substantiallyas shownand described.
