MODE OF EMBOSSING WOOD;
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,608, dated October 24, 1.865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY MAY, of Bridgeonnecticnt, hax'e invented a new and useful Improvement in Stamping or Molding Wood; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of such procss and' the application thereof, which will the same.
The pieces of wood to be pressed or molded are cut from the end of the log or timber in sheets or cross-sections, having the face or faces upon which the impression is to he made transbeen thoroughly seasoned or otherwise freed from moisture of water or sap, are placed unsirable form, in such a manner that a heavy pressure may be made upon the end ofthe grain of the wood, and the pieces of wood, when thus placed, are subjected to a single and short pressure by such dies or 1r olds, the pressure being applied against the end of the grain and in a direction as nearly aspossible parallel with the grain into'useful and ornamental forms,
patterns, and devices, suitable for book-covers, boxes, moldings, picture-frames, panel ornaments, and other ornaments.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved article of manufactm'e herein described, consist'ng of sheets or cross-sections of wood stam hed or compressed into useful or ornamental forms, patterns, or devices by applying the pressure and producing the device upon the end of the grain in the manner substantially as set forth.
