, UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS M. HILLIARD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SPONGE AND SOAP HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,360, dated September 19, 1893. Application filed April 10, 1893. Serial No. n59.687- d m To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS M. HILLIARD, of New York,in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sponge and Soap Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My present invention is an improved article of manufacture being a combined sponge and soap-holding rack forbath tubs; and its object is to provide a device which can be readily hung on the bath tub edge convenient for the bathers use, and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings:Figure lisaview of the device suspended in position for use. Fig. 2 is a. front view, and Fig. 3 is a side view of the same.
The main portion of the device forming the sponge rack and hanger portion is formed as shown of two side wires A, A, the upper ends of which are connected at their extremities by a cross wire 13. From wire B the wires A extend parallel first upward about two inches'then forward about three inche and then downward again for about two inches, still maintaining a parallel relation to each other, and thus far forming two U-shaped hook portions A by which the device can be suspended on the edge of the bath tub, chair, &c. The wires then are bent laterally and downwardly for about two inches and then are bent directly downward again on parallel lines and curved upward forming parallel hooks A the extremities of the wires being again connected by a cross wire 0 rigidly united thereto in any suitable manner. Be tween hooks A are two similar hooks D formed of a single wire having an angular bend D at center which bend stands between the front vertical members of portions A and is rigidly fastened thereto by a cross piece E which as shown is formed of two longitudinal halves, having recesses or grooves in their D as shown.
rigidly fastened to the wire 0 as shown. To the bar E is secured the ends of a horizontally disposed U-shaped wire F, and between the front portion of this wire and the piece E are strunga number of parallel shallow U-shaped wiresf, and to the side members of wire F are secured a nested series of U-shaped wires f so that the whole forms a grated soap-holder, while the books A and D with the cross wire 0 constitute a grated sponge or towel holder. If desired the number of hooked wires D may be increased.
From the foregoing the simplicity, neatnessand utility of thisdevice will be apparent.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent thereon, is
1. A rack composed of the side wires bent into U shape at one end and connected thereat by a cross wire, and then bent divergingly, and then into parallel hooks, and connected by a second cross wire, intermediate wire hooks parallel with but intermediate the other hooks connected to thelower cross wire, and the cross piece connecting the upper portions of the hooks to the side Wires substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination with the side wires A, A, bent as described, and the wires B, C, rigidly connecting the ends thereof, the intermediate wire D bent upon itself and its members also bent to conform to the lower portions of wires A; of the cross piece E connecting the vertical portions of said wires A, D, above wire 0, substantially as described.
3. The combination with the side wiresA, A, bent as described, and the wires B, O,rigidly connecting the ends thereof, the intermediate wire D bent-upon itself and its members also bent to conform to the lower portions of wires A; of the cross piece E connecting the vertical portions of said wires A, D, above. wire 0, and the U-shaped wire F connected to said piece, and the wires f, f all constructed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myown I affix my signatu re in presence of two THOS. M. HILLIARD.
witnesses.
