P. S. COOLEY.
LIQUID EJBGTI NG DEVICE FOR BOTTLES, 6w.
No. 487,088. Patented Nov. 29, 1892.
WITNESSES INVEN 70/? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANKLIN S. OOOLEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO'JOHN E. GOODRICH, OF SAME PLACE.
LlQUlD-EJECTING DEVICE FOR BOTTLES, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,088, dated November 29, 1892.
Application filed January 28, 1892. Serial No. 419,509. (No model.)
To to whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FRANKLIN S. OooLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Liquid-Ejecting Devices for Bottles, &c., which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing.
My invention consists of a stopper provided with an air-duct and having a hollow bulb connected therewith, the same being in communication with said bulb, and a pipe which is tightly fitted in the wall of said bulb and freely fitted in said air-duct.
The figure represents a vertical section of a device embodying my invention.
Referring to the drawing, A designates a stopper, which is formed, preferably, of soft rubber and having a duct B vertically therethrough.
0 designates an elastic hollow bulb, which is connected with said stopper and con1municates with said duct B, whereby when the bulb is compressed the air therein is directed through said duct into the bottle or vessel in which the stopper is inserted, thus creating pressure therein.
D designates a tube, which is passed through said duct 13 so that its lower end enters the liquid in the bottle or vessel, While its upper end passes tightly through the wall of the bulb and is sustained thereon, it being noticed that the duct B is somewhat wider than the portion of the tube within the same, so as to provide the air-passage, as above stated, it being seen that when pressure is created within the bottle or vessel the liquid therein is forced out therefrom through the tube D and directed by the upper end thereof, which is outside of the bulb, to a place of collection or use. It will also be noticed that the duct B not only provides an air-conveying passage, but also contains the adjacent portion of the liquid-discharging tube D, and that the latter is sustained on the bulb, thus simplifying and cheapening articles of the kind and presenting a compact and practical device for the purpose intended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A stopper having a hollow bulb connected therewith and provided with an airconveying passage and a tube partly occupying said passage and tightly fitted in the Wall of said bulb, substantially as described.
2. A stopper having a bulb, an air-conveying passage leading from said bulb through the stopper, and a tube partly occupyingsaid passage and adapted to extend through the wall of the bulb outside of the latter, substantially as described.
FRANKLIN S. OOOLEY.
