Beit known that I, CARL SIGMUNT) VON ILA- NOR, of See Villa, near Attersee, Austro-Hungarian Empire, have invented certain new and useful Devices for Looking Spikes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
The invention has been patented in Austria-Hungary June 2, 1892, No. 4.159 and 21,257; in England March 7, 1892, No. 4,472; in Belgium March 31, 1892, No. 98,825, and in Switzerland May 17, 1892, No. 4,823.
The present invention relates to a device to be applied in driving in safetynails for railway-spikes. It is, as is well known, very diflicult to give the safety-nail the correct inclination, so that the same will with certainty pass through the boring in the spike, and in order to overcome this difficulty I have constructed a simple device which enables the safety-nail to be so driven into the sleeper that it will with certainty pass into and through the boring of the spike.
Figure l is a vertical section through the device and sleeper. Fig. 2 is atop View of the device.
The device consists of two parts Z, which are connected by ahinge d, as shown in Fig. 2. It will be understood, however, that I do not wish to limit myself to this particular means for connecting the parts. The two parts are provided with a recess e for receiving the head f of the spike a, and with a guideway 0, made at such an incline that the safety-nail b is securely guided :through the tie b into the boring a of the spike a.
By means of this device the workman is enabled to drive in the safety-nail so that it will always pass into the boring a of the spike a, thus producing not only a saving in material, but a considerable saving in time.
Having fully described my said invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A device for guiding the safety-nails of railroad-spikes, having the opening to receive the spike and the inclined guiding-opening to receive and direct the safety-nail, substantially as described.
2. A device for guiding the safety-nails of railroad and like spikes, consisting of the separable parts Z, having the recess 6 between them for the spike, and the second recess 0,
inclining thereto and adapted to receive and direct the safety-nail, substantially as described.
3. In combination in a guiding device for the safety-nails of railroad-spikes, the two parts Z, hinged together at one end, and each having recesses which form when the parts are brought together the recess 6 for the spike and the recess for the rail, substantially as described.
