A., BITTER. HORSE COLLAR FASTENER'.
No. 474,147. 7 Patented May 3, 1892.
T 211W '4' I EINITED STATES PATENT Orricn.
ANTON BITTER, OF MILWAUKEE, 'WISCONSIN.
HORSE-COLLAR FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 474,147, dated May 3, 1892.
Application filed December 14, 1891. SerialNo. 414,950. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON BITTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in.
the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Collar Fasteners; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention has for its object to provide a simple, strong, and easily-operated horse-collar fastener; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, to be hereinafter described with refer ence to the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of a horse-collar fastener constructed according to my invention; Fig. 2, a plan view of the same inverted, and Fig. 3 a vertical section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A B represent two opposing sections constituting my improved fastener, these sections being triangular in a longitudinal direction and of acontourin cross-section corresponding to the outside of the members of a separable horsecollar, to which they may be rigidly secured. The fastener-sections are preferably of metal cast in the desired form and provided with openings 1) forthe rivets that maybe employed to rigidly secure them to the collar members. The fastener-section A is cast in one piece with an offset-tongue C, that overlaps the under side of the other fastener-section B, and this tongue has a lug c thereon for engagement with an opening 61 in the latter fastenersection. The lug cof the tongue 0 has a vertical face that opposes a corresponding face of the opening d in the fastener-section B, and from the upper end of its vertical face the said lug is preferably beveled toward the outer end of said tongue, this beveling of the tonguelug being for the purpose of having it more readily engage and disengage the opening in said fastener-section. The fastener-sections A and B form a flush joint with each other, and the latter section is cast in one piece with a guide-loop D for the tongue 0 of the former section, as well as with a martingale-loop E, this martin gale-loop and the guide-loop being at right angles to each other and having a common corner-post 6, whereby each of said loops strengthens the other, this being an important feature of my invention.
In practice the tongue 0 of the fastener-section A is inserted in the guide-loop D of the other fastener-section B and pushed along until its lug c engages the opening d in the latter fastener-section, and said fastener-sections being thus joined, they are securely held together by means of the tie-strap of the hames that are placed on the collar, it being intended that this tie-strap shall pass through said guide-loop. The tie-strap being loosened the fastener-sections may be readily disconnected by a slight movement tending to throw the lower ends of the collar members upward and outward, this movement being the one employed to open any separable horse-collar far enough to have it come clear of a horse on which it may have been placed.
By the construction above described I pro vide a horse-collar fastener that has no parts liable to break, clog up, or get out of order, while at the same time a oollarprovided with my fastener may be uncoupled without any appreciable effort on the part of the operator.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A horse-collar fastener comprising the sections A B, the first of which is provided With the tongue 0, having the lug c, and the second with the opening 61 for engagement with the tongue-lug, the guide-loop D, martingale-loop E, and corner-post e, connecting said loops, substantially as set forth. k
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of VVisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
. ANTON RITTER.
