SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 446,733, dated February l?, 1891.
Application filed August 22, 1890. Serial No. 362,746. (No model.)
To cir/ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY J. DEMERS; a citizen of the United States, residing' at North Adams, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-'lugsg and I do hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is an edge View of a portion of a hame, showing the application of my invention thereto; Fig. 2, a side elevation, partly in section, which is taken on linex of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the coupling for connecting t-he trace-strap to the haine.
The present invention has for its object to provide a simple and effective means for at-v taching the trace-strap to the hame, whereby greater strength is obtained at the point of connection and a more secure coupling of the parts to the haine. These objects I attain by the construction substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the haine or a portionA thereof, which has the eyebolts B C of the usual construction, the latter having the sleeve a, which is east with a depending eye I) for connecting the ring D thereto, these parts being of the usual construction, and therefore further description is deemed unnecessary.
My improved coupling is shown more clearly in Fig. 3, and consists of a coupling-head E, and when connected to the strap F or trace is at right angles to the length thereof, as shown in Fig. l. The coupling-head E has shank c, which is cast with said head and has holes (Z for the rivets el for attaching it to the strap F, which in the present instance is con nected, as shown in Fig. 2, between the layers of leather. It desired, the coupling-head E may have two of the Shanks c, in which case it would extend upon each side of a central layer of lea-ther.
As the essential feature of the invention lies in the coupling-head E, it is evident that any preferred and well-known means may be employed for attaching it to the trace.
The coupling-head E has a hole centrally through it for the reception of the pin G, and at its lower end has a central bearing-ange II, so that when the coupling-head is in place, as shown,`the flange will rest upon the eye bolt C and support the lower end of the coupling-head above the sleeve a, so that said head will move upon its pivot without obstruction.
I'Iaving now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hame provided with lateral eyebolts B C, in combination with the couplinghead E, having central hole, the pin G, held in said eyeloolts, a lateral shank c, and at its lower end a central bearing-flange II, of less diame ter than the head, said shank adapted to receive the trace of two layers of material surrounding the shank and secured thereto, with the inner ends of said layers terminating at the head, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my naine in the presence of two witnesses. W
HENRY J. DEMERS.
