Description

(No Model.)
J. A. MACRAE. BREAST STRAP SLIDE.
Patented Sept. 29, 189.1.
INVENTOR: i MK WITNESSES A TTOHNE YS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES A. MACRAE, OF REGINA, CANADA.
BREAST-STRAP SLIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,442, dated September 29, 1891.
Application filed April 8, 1891. Serial No. 388,113. (No model.)
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. MAORAE, of Regina, in the North-West Territoryand Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and Improved Breast-Strap Slide, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in breast-strap slides; and the object of my invention is to produce a simple, durable, and efiicient device by means of which the breaststrap of a harness may be quickly secured to the ring of a neck-yoke.
To this end myinvention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a broken plan view of the improvement, showing it connected with the breast-strap and choke-strap of a harness and with the neck yoke of a pole. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of the same, partly in section; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device in position upon a horse.
The slide consists of a main case A, which is open on opposite sides, so that the breaststrap B may pass through it, and extending from the outer side of the case is a snap-hook C, which is adapted to engage a ring d in the end of the neck-yoke D. On the side of the case A opposite the snap-hookO, or on the inner side, is a keeper E, which is adapted to engage a snap-hook'fon the end of the chokestrap F, and the ends of the breast-strap B are provided with snap-hooks b, which are adapted to engage rings g on the hames G.
To adjust the device the breast-strap B is passed through it, as best shown in Fig. 1. and the ends of the breast-strap are secured to the hames as described, and the belly-band is secured to a girth in the usual manner and to the keeper on the case A, so that when it is in position upon a horse it will be suspended from the breast, as shown in Fig. 3, and as the choke-strap is secured to it from below and the breast-strap from above it will be held securely in place, but will be capable of the necessary movement to accommodate the motion of the horse, and to attach it to the neck-yoke the snap-hook O is simply snapped into the ring d of the yoke.
Under ordinary circumstances the case A need not be removed from the breast-strap; but when the horses are unharnessed the case A on each horse is disengaged from the neckyoke and is allowed to remain on the breaststrap, so that usually in harnessing it will be in place, and the only necessary thing to do is to secure one end of the breast-strap to the hames and snap the hook 0 into the'ring of the neck-yoke.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As an improved article ofmanufacture, a breast-strap slide consisting of a hollow case having opposite side openings and provided with a snap-hook rigidly secured to and projecting from one side thereof and with a keeper rigidly secured tothe side opposite the snap-hook, as set forth.
JAMES A. MACRAE.
