WIRE SHELF-BRACKET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 472,285, dated April 5, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HENRY L. BRADLEY, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in \Vire Shelf-Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawin gs and theletters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, iu

Myinvention relates to an improvement in Wire shelf-brackets, the object being to produce a cheap, light, strong, durable, and ornamental article.

WVith these ends in view my invention consists in a wire shelf-bracket having each of its arms composed of two or more strands of wire arranged to secure a wide bearing in such a bracket when provided with a brace, and in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

As shown by Fig: 1 of the drawings, the frame of the bracket is made from a single piece of wire bent to form two arms or members A and B, standingat a right angle to each other, and each composed of two approximately parallel strands of wire arranged in the planes in which they are to be utilized, the said planes being those of the wall or partition and shelf. Perforated sheet-metal clamps A and B, applied to the respective arms aforesaid near the bend of the frame, stiffen the same and afford means of putting the bracket up and attaching the shelf to it. The clamp B has the additional function of covering the ends of the wire.

The bracket represented by Fig. l of the drawings is provided with a diagonal brace D, composed of a long loop of wire twisted between its ends, which are respectively inserted into perforated sheet-metal braceclamps D and D located near the ends of the respective arms of the frame. This brace secures great strength, and is my preferred form of brace. Fig. 2 shows a brace E, similar, but not twisted, and having its lo er end shaped to form an eye E.

The braced construction shown by Fig. 3 of the drawings is composed of two pieces H and H of Wire, each bent at a right angle and clasped together by perforated sheet-metal clamps H and H and having their ends returned upon themselves to form the eyes H II H H and then braided or twisted together to form the brace H Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A wire shelf-bracket having its two arms or members composed of two or more strands of wire connected together by clamps and arranged to secure a wide bearing in the planes in which they are utilized and a brace extending diagonally between the arms and secured at its ends by clamps applied thereto, substantially as described.

2. A wire shelf-bracket having its two arms or members composed of two or more strands of wire connected together by perforated sheetmetal clamps and arranged to secure a wide bearing in the planes in which they are utilized and a brace extending diagonally between the said members of the bracket and secured thereto by perforated sheet-metal clamps, substantially as described.

3. A wire shelf-bracket having its two arms or members composed of two or more strands of wire connected together by perforated sheet-metal clamps and arranged to secure a wide bearing in the planes in which they are utilized and a twisted diagonal brace extending between the arms, substantially as described.
