CHECK-BOOK".

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 457,466, dated August 11, 1891.

Application filed September 10, 1890. Serial No. 364,557. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, STEPHEN A. THAYER, of Bloomington, in the county of'McLean and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check-Books; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in the arrangement of pocket check-books.

Heretofore check-books have been so arranged that it is necessary to turn the stubs before being able to ascertain the amount previously drawn and the balance on hand, or else it has been necessary to have two leaves folding in opposite directions,in all of which cases only the last-drawn check appears.

The object of my invention is to provide a check-book so arranged as to present the several amounts of a series of checks at a glance, the said amounts appearing in asingle row or column, which also enables convenient addition without turning or in any manner dis- The stubs and checks are interleaved with the stub uppermost and run in a series of six,

is filled out, the amount thereof is entered on the stub immediately preceding the check drawn. The stubs are of even length, but run from one line to six or more, thereby forming a continuous column, so that the amount of the last-drawn check will always be presented to the eyes in addition to the former ones without disturbing the stubs. v

The check-book may consist of any number of checks and stubs found convenient and desirable. This is accomplished by providing a statement-sheet C immediately following the stub marked b, which is the last of the first V A new series may then follow, the

claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is M A check-book havinga series of interleaved independent stubs and checks, the stubs being all of the same length, but having ends of difierent widths, whereby as each check is removed the end of the stub below said check will be exposed with its amount-column registering with the amount-column of the preceding stub, and a statement-sheet immediately following the last stub of the series, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
