Description

(No Model.)
J. R. SATTERTHWAII'E;
HUSKING PIN.
No. 444,857. Patented Jan. 20, 1891,
wdnesis'Qa' IMP/r660 a UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN R. SATTERTHWAITE, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
HUSKINGA-PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 444,857, dated January 20, 1891. Application filed May 6, 1890. Serial No. 350.828- (No model.)
To (all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN R. SATTER- THWAITE, a ci izen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in the Construction of Husking-Pins, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in bushing-pins to which adjustable finger-receptacles are attached; and the objects of my improvement are, first, to provide a fingerreceptacle that may be suited to fingers of different sizes without change or alteration other than the slipping of a strap through a loop, and, second, to provide a simple, easy, and effective means of adjusting the fingerreceptacle to a size suited to the use of gloves or of other protection to the fingers of the husker. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved husking-pin, and Fig. 2 is a side View of the same'in section.
Similar letters refer to the same or similar parts in both figures.
A represents a strap, of leather or similar material, riveted to the pin at the points 6 and f, Fig. 2, extended toward the hook or point of the pin, and then backward through the loop 0, and thence through and into a buckle D or similar device, which buckle is secured by the strap 13, riveted to the pin at the point g, Fig. 2, the loop 0 moving freely, as desired, backward or forward over the strap A, and the strap A lengthened or shortened, as required, by means of the buckle D, forming the finger-receptacles w and y.
By turning the strap A back upon itself and through the loop 0, formed of part of the same strap, I secure a receptacle for the fingers, which is easily and perfectly adjustable to the different sizes of unprotected fingers within the usual limits by simply sliding the loop forward or backward, and thus provide a ready and simple means of adjusting the relative size of the two finger-receptacles wand 3 without altering the length of the strap A.
By means of the buckle D the strap A is securely held in place, and a receptacle is thus obtained for the remaining fingers, which can be easily enlarged or contracted, as the user may desire.
Should the husker wear gloves, thus greatly increasing the size of his hand for working purposes, the strap A can be lengthened at the buckle D, and being slipped through the loop G the same proportions are retained, thus accomplishing a useful purpose in huskingpins.
By making the strap B fixed and using the strap A alone for adjusting the size of the finger-receptacles and making use of the loop 0, I secure absolute adj ustabilit-y, a result impossible to obtain where the adjustment is from one hole in a strap to another hole in the same.
In my improved method the sliding loop permits adjustment for sizes between the sizes that might require the use of difierent holes in the strap. Furthermore, by dispensing with the necessity of changing both straps I have greatly simplified the operation of adj ustment.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure Letters Patent for- The combination, with the huskingpin, of the straps A and B, riveted to the pin, the strap A passing freely through the loop 0 formed in the samestrap and adj ustably connected with the strap 13 by means of the buckle D or similar device, forming the adjustable finger-receptacles w and y, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
J OHN R. SAITERTHIVAI'JE.
