HUBERT J. BERNIERS, OF PORT WASHINGTON, VISOONSIN..
DOOR OR ANAL-OGOUS DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 448,350, dated December 23, 1890.
Application filed March 21, 1890. Serial No. 344,728. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HUBERT J. BERNERS, of Port Washington, in the county of Ozaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Doors or Analogous Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to doors -or analogous devices, being particularly applicable to cheesesafes; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, to be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a sectional view of a cheese-safe provided with my invention; and Fig. 2, a horizontal section on 'line 2 2 of the preceding` figure.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents a cheese-safe provided with stiles B for a non-flexible door O, said stiles having vertical grooves l) upon their inner sides,`the upper ends of these grooves being elbowed, as` shown at c, to register with inclined grooves (Z upon the inner sides of transverse braces D, the latter grooves being at obtuse angles to the former. The edges of the door C adja- 'cent to the stiles B are provided with rollers or pins e forengagementwith the grooves h d, and the obtuse-angle interception of these grooves permits of said door being raised up and toward the rear at the same time without projecting any material portion thereof beyond said stiles, as illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. l.
The rollers or pins e on the non-flexible door O are so arranged that when said door is in its closed position all of said rollers or pins will be within the grooves'b of the stiles B below the elbows c, and thus the door is locked against lateral movement. Vhen the door is raised, the rollers or pins on its side A edges successively leave the stile-grooves and enter the brace-grooves, whereby the upward and rearward movement of said door is accomplished.
As above described, my invention is particularly applicable to cheese-safes, because there is no appreciable projection of the non- 5o flexible door O beyond the stiles B when said door isbeing opened, and thus the space in a store is economized; but while I have thus described said invention it is obvious that the same may be otherwise employed, and I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to any particular device in connection therewith.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let- 6o ters Patent, is-
l. The Stiles having vertical grooves upon their inner sides, transverse braces also provided with grooves upon their inner sides and these grooves arranged to intercept the stile-grooves at obtuse angles, and a non-flexible door or analogous device having its side edges provided with projections, all of which normally engage said stile-grooves, but successively enter the brace-grooves as the door 7o is raised, whereby the latter moves in an upward and rearward direction at the same time, substantially as set forth.
2. The Stiles B, provided with the vertical grooves l), having the elbows c, the transverse braces D, having the inclined grooves d in register with said elbows of the stile-grooves, and the non-iieXibledoor C, having projections e, all of which normally engage said stile-grooves, but successively enter the bracc- 8o grooves as said door is raised, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Port lVashington, in the county of Ozaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
HUBERT J. BERNERS. lVitnesses:
N. E. OLIPHANT, IVM. KLUG.
