UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER SCHOLL, OF NORTH KAUKAUNA, VISOONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- FOURTII TO JOHN RADERMAOHER, OF SAME PLACE.
PU LP-SCREEN SHAKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Yea/:ent No. 441,903, dated December 2, 1890.
Application filed July 25, 1890. Serial No. 359,911. (No model.)
To LZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, PETER SCHOLL, ot' North Kaukauna,in the eountyof Outagarnie, and in the State of Viseonsimhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulp- Screen Shakers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to pulp-screen shakers; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination ot parts to be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a side elevation of my machine, partly in section; Fig. 2, a planv view of the same, partly in horizontal section; Fig. 3, a detail sectional View illustrating the means for regulating the tension of springs that oppose reciprocating slides to which the pulp-screen is attached, Fig. 4t, a section on line a Il ot' Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 a horizontal section illustrating one ofV the reciprocating slides and guides for the same.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents a base having slotted standards B, provided with guides for slides C, the edges of the latter being preferablybeveled on bpth sides, as best illustrated in Fig. 5, and, as is also best illustrated in the same figure, the guides are sectional, one section b of each guide being provided with slots c,that engage bolts d, that, passed through both sections and nuts e on the bolts, serve to clamp said guide-section t) in the position to which itmay be adjusted to take up wear on the relative slide.
Supported on the upper ends oi' the slides C is a pulp screen or strainer D, of any suitable construction, and, as is common in the art, the pulp-screen depends into a vat E for Water, the vat being connected to the standards B by any suitable means, asis best illustrated in Fig. 2.
Vertical slotsj" near the lower ends of each slide C engage a bolt g, passed through the upper ends ot' depending arms F, that terminate in sockets h, and between these sockets and seats i' in the standards B, l arrange spiral springs G, that serve to support said slide, the tension of said springs being regulated by means of gibs lj,inserted in said slots to bear upon the upper ends ot' the socket-arms, as best illustrated in Fig. 3. The extremelower ends of the slides Care bifurcated to straddle levers, to which the bifurcations are pivotall y connected, and these levers Il are preferably provided at one end with sockets le for the reception of lugs m on the upper ends of links Land bolts fn, having squared portions eu.- gaging squared openings in said lugs, are employed to pivotally` connect the levers with the links, this construction being best illustrated in Fig. 2.
The lower ends of the links l are provided with openings that engage eecentrics .l on a power-shaft J, that has its bearings p on the base A of the machine, this construction being best illustrated in Fig. l.
The main standards B and sub-standards K on the base A are provided with bearings q for screw-threaded rods L and connected by guiderails M, as best illustrated in Figs. l and 2. Engaging the screw-rods L are screwthreaded sleeves N, and these sleeves are connected by bails O to the trunnicns r of boxes P, said trunnions being arranged to turn in blocks Q, mounted on the guide-rails M, and the boxes are engaged by thelevers I-I, above described, set-screws S being employed to lock said boxes and levers together.
A shaft R, having its bearings u on the substandards K, is provided with Worms t, that mesh with wornrwheels S on the screw-rods, andthe Set-screws s being run up the boxes P, engaging the levers Il, may be adjusted to or from the main standards B by the wormand-screw mechanism to regulate the throw of said levers and consequent immersion of the pulp-screen D, the latter being connected to the slides C, that are arranged and counected as above described. 'lo facilitate the adjustment just described, the shaft R is provided with a hand-wheel R', as shown in Figs. l and 2.
The lever and eccentric mechanism draws the pulpscreen D down against the power of the springs G, and the expansion of the latter aids to return said screen to its normal position, as well as to take up any lost motion that may occur.
By the construct-ion above described l pro- ICO vide a pulp-screen shaker that is noiseless and positive in its operation, While at the same time I may regulate-the immersion of said screen in the Water-tat in order to obtain the best possible results.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to sec-.ure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of a pulp-screen, springA controlled slides supporting the saine, levers connected to the slides, and eccentries linked to the levers, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of apulp-sereen,slides supporting the same, levers connected to the slides, adjustable fulerums for the levers, and
' eccentries linked to Vthe said'levers, substanl tially as set forth.
3. The combination of a pulp-screen, slides supporting the same, socket-arms adjustable on the slides, spiral springs arranged to engage and oppose the arms, levers connected to said slides, and eeeentrios linked to the levers, substantiallyas set forth. y
al. The combination of a pulpscreelnslides supporting the same, levers Connected to the slides, blocks loosely mounted on guide-rails, boxes trunnioned in the blocks and engaged by the levers, suitable means for locking the boxes to said levers, screw-threaded sleeves linked to the box-trunnions, serew-rods engagin g the sleeves, a shaft geared to the screwrods, a power-shaft provided with eccentrics, and links connecting said levers and eccentrics, substantially as set forth.
5. The combination ot' a base provided with slotted main standards and sub-standards united by guide-rails, a vat secured to the main standards, slides arranged in the latter standards, a pulp screen mounted on the slides, levers connected to said slides, blocks loosely mounted on the guide-1ails,boxes trunnioned in the blocks, suitable means for lookin g the boxes to the levers, adjustable sleeves linked to the box-trunnions, a power-shaft having its bearings on said base and provided with eccentrics, and links connecting said levers and eceentrics, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at North Kaukauna, in the county of Outagamie andState of Visconsin, in the presence ot' two witnesses.
