BUCKLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 441,618, dated November 25, 1890.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN MURRAY GUIL- BERT, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have in vented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of a buckle having its frame and connecting-loop formed integral.

It also consists of a buckle having bearings for the tongue formed integral with the frame and loop of the buckle.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a piece of material or blank from which a buckle embodying my invention is produced. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of a buckle embodying my invention. Fig. 3 represents a side elevation thereof. Fig. 4. represents a perspective view of another form thereof.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a buckle, consisting of the frame B, loop 0, tongues D, and eyes E as bearings for said tongues.

In forming the buckle I take a piece of sheet metal or other material and by suitable means form in the same a slit 0. and opening b, Fig. 1, the same being in accordance with the desired shape of the loop 0 of the buckle, the slit a being also in accordance with the inner wall of the frame B. At the back of the opening I) is a cross-bar c, which afterward becomes the back of the frame B. The

part of the metal embraced by the slit (1. and opening I) is afterward bent back on the cross-bar 0, thus producing the frame B and loop 0. The portion of the metal between the frame B and loop 0 about the cross-bar c is bent, producing the eyes E and the crossbar cl of the tongues set into said eyes and inclosed by the same, whereby the tongues have their bearings and are permitted to be opened and closed, as usual in buckles. It will be seen that the frame, loop, and eyes are integral, and that the loop and eyes are produced from parts of the blank removed or thrown up therefrom, thus obviating the use of longer or larger pieces of metal or ma terial than said blank, and avoiding joints or attached pieces other than those of the tongues.

Fig. 4 illustrates a form wherein an additional loop F is provided, the same being connected with the frame B, the loop 0 and eyes Ebeing similar to those shown in the other figures, excepting in shape'or contour, which is immaterial.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A buckle having a frame and a loop integral therewith, the loop being primarily part of the material of the frame cut therefrom and bent to form the bearing-eyes for the bar of the tongue, substantially as described.
