BRACELET.

SPECIFICATIDN forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,593, dated May 13, 1890.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES R. MATHEWSON, of \Vrentham, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelets, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to that class of ornamental bracelets in which the links consist of shells or hollow balls of any suitable shape I slipped over and strung upon a spring which supports them and gives shape to the bracelet. In order to save stock it is quite common to out holes in the rear sides of the links or shells i. e., the sides next the wrist.

This exposes the spring to View, and it is to prevent this exposure that this invention is produced.

In the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a bracelet embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan of the inner side or side next the wrist. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section. Fig. 4 is a cross-section taken centrally through a link. Fig. 5 is a view in perspective of a detached link, showing particularly the under side. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the collets. Fig. 7 is a View of the spring detached.

0 A A are shells or links of any desired shape and size, hollow and strung upon the spring B, preferably fiat in shape. These shells or links are provided with large openings A on their inner sides to save stock.

Each shell or link is provided with opposite holes a a, the holes a being the larger and the holes a being just large enough to admit the spring,and when they are strung upon the spring the large hole in each shell is next the smaller hole in the next shell.

C is a collet of substantially the shape shown in Fig. 6. This collet is large enough to slip over the spring and small enough to slip through the large hole a of a link or shell, but too large to slip through the small 5 hole a. In putting the links on the spring a collet is slipped over the spring Within each link, (through its large hole a,) the side 0" of the collct being next the wrist. Thus the spring is completely concealed, as nothing but the collets show through the holes .A'.

The shape of the links or shells may be varied as desired.

Having thus fully described ny invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a bracelet oi the character described, the combination, with the shells or links provided with openings A on their inner sides and opposite openings a a for the admission of the spring, of the collets G, of size to slip over the spring and through the openings a, whereby said spring is concealed at said open ings A, substantially as set forth.
