UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
SHUBAEL COTTLE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN ORNAMENTAL LINKS FOR NECKLACE-CHAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,531, dated February 15, 1876; application filed December 27, 1875.
I which shall be so constructed as to produce a light, strong, and beautiful necklace, which shall have the appearance of being very heavy,
and may be manufactured with a small amount of labor The invention consists in the long hollow links, having holes at thev ends of the slots of a larger diameter than the end parts of said slots, and having a small plate inserted in one end to receive the ends of the open ring, as hereinafter fully described.
A are the long links, which are made oval in their general form. The links A are made hollow, and may be made without seam, or by soldering one or more pieces together.
At the ends of the slot c are formed circu- Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, part lar holes M, which are made of a larger diameter than the end parts of the slotsa so that the rings B that fit into the said holes a cannot pass into the said slots 00.
In one end of each link A is sawed a slot, into which is fitted and soldered a small plate, 0, for the ends of the open rings B to rest upon, so as to prevent the said rings B from turning, thus keeping them in their strongest position, and preventing their joint from coming into sight.
ln this way a strong. and beautiful necklace is produced from a comparatively small amount of material, and with a comparatively small amount of labor, while at the same time having the appearance of being very heavy.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent---- An ornamental link for necklace-chains, having holes a? at the ends of its slot 11 of a larger diameter than the .end parts of said slot 60, and having a small plate, 0, inserted in one end to receive the ends of the open ring B, substantially as herein shown and described.
