Description

(No Model.) I
A. HOTALING,
DOOR OPENER.
5 956265586. I Int/12501? d g I V aew v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMBROSE HOTALING, O F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DOOR-OPENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,082, dated May 6, 1890.
Application filed August l5 1889. Serial No. 320,852. (No model.)
To wZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AMBROSE HOTALING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented acertain new and useful Door-Opener; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of my invention is to make an improvement in devices by which the front door of a dwelling-house may be opened by the proprietor or attendant without the necessity of running up or down stairs when the boarders, tenants, or persons who have rooms there ring the bell for admission.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim. 7
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation of my door-opener; and Fig. 2, an elevation showing the door, its lock-bolt, and the doorjamb pocket in which my door-opener is located.
In the drawings, A represents the bed-plate, fastened to the studding on the inside of the door-jamb. B B are round rods, on which rests the crank-lever L, so that the latter may slide without wabbling. This lever is fulcrumed at Z and attached at Z to the lower end of a spiral spring 0, whose other end is made fast at a to the bed-plate A. The end Z of the lever rests against the front end of the lock-bolt D, so as to push it back whenever the Wire E is pulled to overcome the resistance of the spring 0. This pull-wire E may be carried to any partof the house and provided with aknob within convenient reach of the proprietor or attendant. By my device a great deal of very wearisome labor, especially to females, may be avoided entirely.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A door-opener consisting of the rods BB, bed-plate A, spiral spring C, crank-lever L, and pull-wire E, all arrangedas shown, and adapted to be used in connection with a doorlock, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence-of two witnesses.
' AMBROSE HOTALING.
