Be it known that I, GEORGE K. RIX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vire Desk-Baskets, `of which the following is a specification.

My said invention relates to an improvement in desk-baskets, especially to those formed of woven wire, which have been found very suitable for the purpose on account of their. cheapness and durability, but which have heretofore possessed the disadvantage of being liable to scratch and mar the desk or other piece of furniture on which they are used; and it consists in providing such abasket with feet of rubber or a similar material, and thereby overcome said disadvantage wi thout materially increasing 'the cost of the baskets, as will be hereinafter morc fully described and claimed. Referring to the accompanying drawings,

which are made a part hereof, and on which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure l is a perspective view of `a woven-wire desk-basket embodying my said invention; Fig. 2, a detail perspective view of one corner of the same on an enlarged scale, and Fig. 3 a View showing one of the cornerposts in elevation and the rubber foot thereon in section.

In said drawings, the portions marked A represent the main body of the basket, and B the corner-posts thereof, on the lower ends of which are formed the feet or rests.

The basketAis of a common construction, being composed of small wire 4interwoven in a neat and substantial manner and formed with a central depression in one end for convenience in handling. y, The corner-posts B are secured one to each corner of the basket, the upper end being preferably bent around the top rail or frame of the basket, and being tied at intervals throughout its length by the tie-wires b to the corner wire of the basket proper. Its lower end extends below the bottom of the basket and is bent up under the same in a curved or circular form, as indicated in the drawings, to afford a round surface for the basket to rest upon. This portion is covered by a piece of soft material, it preferably consisting of a piece of rubber tubing of a suitable size mounted thereon. ily seen, this post not only aords a suitable support, which being covered, as described, precludes the possibility of any damage to the furniture from the use of the basket, but also strengthens the corners thereof and supports the main body of said basket free from contact with the furniture, and thus renders the use of small wire practical in the manufacture ofthe basket, while at the same time increasing its. durability, lightness, and improving its appearance. The rubber portion of the feet B, being extended up onto the vertical portions of the posts B, will also serve to prevent the sides or corners of the basket from striking the furnitureand marring it, as said posts extend out beyond the other portions of the basket and the surface of said rubber being beyond the surface of the wire. The use of these pieces of rubber tubing to cover the feet also renders the construction very simple and inexpensive, being easy to put on and very eflicient for the purpose.

Having thus fully described my said invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A desk-basket formed of wire, portions of which are extended beneath the bottom of said basket and bent to form feet or rests therefor, whereby the main portion of said Abasket is supported free from the surface of As will be read-4 the desk or table on which it is used, said y feetor rests being covered with rubber or similar material, whereby said basket is prevented from scratching the desk or other piece of furniture on which itis used, substantially as setforth.

2. The combination of the basket A, formed of woven wire, the separate corner-posts B, secured one to each corner thereof and extending down below said basket, said portions below the basket being bent up to form feet, and pieces of rubber tubing B, mountedV on said bent-up portions, substantially as set forth.
