HARNESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 388,560. dated August 28, 1888.
Application filed January 30, 1888.
Serial No. 262,360. (No model.)
drawing, forming a part of this specification,
in which the figure is a perspective view of a gig saddle madein accordance with my invention.
Theinvention will first be described in connection with the drawings and then pointed out in the claim.
The pad A, skirts B, and saddle tree Gmay be of the usual or of any approved construction. The tug-straps D are fastened at the upper ends by the terretsE in the usual manner. The lower end of each tug-strap D is securely fastened to the skirt to hold a buckle or ring, F, for supporting the thillloop G. In this instance the lower end of the tug-strap D is folded under and secured to the skirt by two rivets, a a, between which is placed on the strap the keeper or loop H, which compasses the outer part of the strap D and prevents the ring F from working up. The thill-loop G has connected to its upper end, G, the snaphook J, by which the said loop is connected to the ring. This snap-hook permits the thillloop to be readily attached to and detached from the harness, so that the loop may remain on the thills, thus avoiding the necessity of slipping the thills through the loops in hitching up, which is always troublesome and annoying, or when the thill is through the loop on one side the other side can be detached and slipped on the thill without moving the horse or vehicle.
By connecting the lower ends of the tug straps D permanently to the skirts they are always held in the same position, the thill motion being accommodated by the snaphooks and rings, and the saddle is thus kept from material movement upon the back of the horse and there is less wear and tear upon the saddle, as it always maintains a perpendicd lar position while the horse is in motion. the
only movement being from the snap'hook to the thill.
Having thus fully described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a gig-saddle,the skirts B and tug-straps D, held by the terrets E, and folded under at the lower ends and secured permanently to the skirts, in combination with the ring F, traceloop G, and snap-hook J, secured to said loop, substantially as described.
