UMBRELLA-TIE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 384,463, dated June 12,1888.

Improvement in Umbrella-Ties; and the following is declared to be a description of the same.

My invention relates to an umbrella-tie wherein the button is inclosed and hidden from, view, so that the unsightliness of a button is prevented and the tie is desirable and neat.

In my improved tie the end which carriesa button is attached to the umbrella, and in the tie near the other end is secureda ring orlarge I 5 eyelet of sufficient size to'pass over the aforesaid button, and the tie near the end is folded back against the opposite side to that upon which the button is secured, and the folded part is fastened to the body of the tie by sewzo ing or by two small eyelets passing through the fabric, one eyelet at each side of the ring, in such a manner as to form a pocket between the parts for the reception of the butt-on.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of z 5 a portion of an umbrella with the tie in place.

Fig. 2 is an elevation in larger size of the umbrella-tie alone, and Fig. 3 is a section longitudinally of the ends of the tie as connected.

The fabric Aof the tie may be of any desired material and form. The button a is secured near the end a, and said end is to be fastened to the fabric of the umbrella. The other end, a", of the tie is folded back, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, against the opposite side of the tie to 3 5 that upon which the button a is secured. In

this end a is secured a ring or large eyelet, I), which is large enough to pass over the button a, and the folded end of the tie is secured to the body of the tie, preferably by the small eyelets, c c, passing through the parts, these eyelets being located one at each side of the ring or eyelet b, and sufficiently distant therefrom to form a pocket between the two parts of the fabric into which the button a, when passing through the ring I), is received and hidden from sight. Two lines ofstitches across the fabric may take the place of the eyelets c a.

My improved umbrella-tie is quickly fastened and unfastened, is neat and desirable, and the buttona, beingreceived and held in the aforesaid pocket, is prevented from coming in contact with other objects and scratching or injuring them or being injured itself or pulled off the tie.

I am aware that an umbrella-tie has been made wherein a hook and eye were employed, which hook, whenthe tie was fastened, was hidden from view; but in this case the outer end of the tie was not folded back, and there was no pocketinto which the hook or button was received and kept out of sight, as in my. present invention.

Iclaim as my invention 1. The umbrellatie A, having a button, a, near one end, a ring or eyelet, b, near the other end, and said end being folded back and the parts secured together by the eyelets c c, whereby a pocket is formed for the reception of the button a between the parts, substantially as specified.

2. The umbrella-tie A,having a fastening, a, near the attached end, a ring-eyelet, b, secured in the tie near the outer or loose end, and said end being folded back against the opposite side of the tie to that upon which the fastening de vice a is secured, and connections through the tie at each side of the eyelet b to form a pocket,

substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
