UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY J. SWABTS, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO J. W. DART, OF SAME PLACE. v
ELECTRICAL HAN o-coeo TIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 380,829, dated April 10, 1888.
I Application filed September 3, 1887. Serial No. 248,687. (No model.)
To 60% whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY J. SwAETs, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrical Hand-Cord Tips, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to produce a tip by means of which a perfect mechanical and electrical connection with the conductor can be secured; and my invention consists in the improved tip hereinafter described andclaimed.
piece.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a hand-cord provided with my improved tips; Fig. 2, a larger view with the clamp removed; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, partly in elevation.
Referring to the letters upon the drawings, A indicates the main body of the tip' or hand- It is provided with a recess, 13, large enough to receive the wound end of the insulated conductor; also, with a smaller circular recess, 0, in continuation of the recess 13, for receiving the unwound end of the conductor so as to make the electrical connection.
D indicates a central projection with a screwthreaded hole in it for receiving a screw, E.
F indicates a clamp which closes the side opening in the holder, and by means of the screw is pressed firmly down upon the coiled conductor and also upon the wound or insulated part of it at G. Thus a complete mechanical and electrical connection is made between the insulated conductor and the tip.
This construction removes all causesof cutout in the ordinary hand-cord tips. In use it presents a neat appearance, and enables me to mend the cords to much' greater advantage than with the ordinary tip.
Having described my improvement, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In an electrical hand-cord tip, the combina tion, with the body A, having an internallyscrew-threaded projection, and the recesses B O,-of the clamp F and screw E, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
H. J. SWAR'IS.
