UNITED STATES PATENT @rrrce.
HENRY OULLABINE, OF SHEFFIELD, COUNTY OF YORK, ENGLAND.
TOBACCO-PIPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,241, dated January 31, 1888,
Application filed A ril 11, resv. sci-tin N0. 2:14.475.
(No model.) Patented in England August 19, 1886, No. 10,624.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY CULLABINE, of Sheffield, in the county ofYork, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pipes, (for which I have obtained a pat ent in Great Britain, bearing date August 19, 1886, and numbered 10,624,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pipes having a removable pin inserted in one end of the stem for cleaning the latter.
The said invention consists in the peculiar construction and combination of parts, hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal section showing the bore through the stem and the capwith the needle or pin placed in its position fitting on the outside of the portion of the stem projecting beyond the head or bowl of the pipe. Fig. 2 is a front view of the pipe complete. Fig. 3 is the pin A. Fig. 4 is an enlarged View showing the cap B in elevation. Fig. 5 is an enlarged view of the india-rubber C. Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 4.
In said drawings, E designates the pipesteni, which is straight, with an extension, E, beyond the bowl D, the latter communicating by a hole, (I, in its bottom with the longitudinal bore 6 of the said stem. This bore runs through the entirelength of said stein, including the extension E. The end of the extension E is covered by a thimlole-shaped cap, B, which has a hollow annular expansion, 1), just beyond the said stem, and also a central perforation in its convex part in alignment with said bore 6. Along straight pin, A, is passed through said hole and into said bore. \Vhen in its normal position, the said pin leaves space enough between it and the stem for smoke to pass along the said bore. A disk, 0, of indiarubber, having a central hole, 0, in alignment with the bore and the hole in the cap, serves to prevent the latter hole from interfering with the draft through the bowl, inasmuch as said rubber disk fits tightly on said pin, the latter passing through said hole 0. The peripheral parts of said disk set in the hollow annular expansion I), and the said disk is held thereby.
Having now particularly described my invention, what I claim is A cap, B, having a hollow annular enlargement, I), in combination with a disk, 0, fitting into said enlargement, and having a central hole 0, a pipe having an extension, E, on the end of its stem and a bore, 6, running from end to end of said stem and extension, and apin, A, attached to said cap and passing through the hole 0 of said disk into said bore, substantially as set forth.
HENRY GULLABINE.
XVitnesses:
