BARREL TRUCK. No. 375,406. Patented Dec. 27, 1887.
N. PEYERS. PhuwLilhngmphar. Wilmington, DC.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. W'ILSON AND JEREMIAH L. NEWTON, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS,
BARREL-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 375,406, dated December 27, 1887.
Application filed October 31, 1887. Serial No. 253,897. (No model.)
' barrel and box trucks; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices, that will be hereinafter fully described. vThe object of our invention is to provide a device whereby hogsheads, barrels, boxes,
bales, and the like may be readily moved from one place to another.
- In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of adevice embodying our improvements. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same, partly in section.
A represents a pair of bars,of wood or other suitable material, of equal length and suitable width and thickness, which are mortised together at their centers and arranged at right angles to each other, as shown, thereby form ing a frame'having radial'arms B. Each of said arms is provided with alongitud-inal slot, 0, of suitable length. Near the outer end of each arm, on the under side thereof, is swivzeled a caster or roller, 1), the said casters or rollers being of suitable size and made of any material that may be preferred.
E represents aseries of blocks, one of which is provided for each arm' B, and is arranged on the upper side thereof. The said blocks areprovided with central openings which register with the slots 0, and bolts F extend through the said openings and downward through the said slots, thereby enabling the blocks to be adjusted radially in or out from the center of the frame. Washers G are placed on the bolts and bear against the lower sides of the arms, and thumb-nuts H are screwed onto thelower threaded ends of the bolts and serve to clamp the blocks to the arms at any desired adjustment, as will be readily understood.
The operation of our invention is as follows: In order to move a barrel or similar object from one point to another, the same is placed on the frame as near the center thereof as possible, and the blocks E are adjusted on the arms so as to bear snugly against the. chine or lower edge of the barrel or object and prevent the same from moving on the frame. It may then be readily pushed to the desired place; or a suitable rod havinga hook at one end and a handle at the otheras, for instance, a bale-hook-may be employed, its hook being engaged with the barrel or other object and its handle grasped by the operator, the said rod serving as a tongue whereby the barrel may be drawn from place to place.
A device thus constructed is extremely cheap and simple, and will be found of great utility and convenience in moving barrels and other heavy objects in warehouses, stores, and similar places.
Having thus described our invention, we claim- In a barrel-truck, the combination of the frame having the rigid radial arms B, mounted on swiveled casters or rollers and provided with vertical radial slots 0, the blocks E on the upper side of each of said arms, the bolts secured to said blocks and extending through the said slots, and the clamping-nuts screwed onto the said bolts and adapted to bear against the lower sides of the arms, whereby the blocks E may be moved toward or from the center of the frame and secured at any desired radial adjustment, for the purpose set forth, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
\VILLIAM W. WILSON. JEREMIAH L. NEWTON.
