ADJ USTABLE ROOF-JAG K.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 590,949, dated September 28, 1897.
Serial No. 641,055. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RIENI-IART VVILKEN, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Ster- 1ing,coun ty of Whiteside, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Roof-Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
The objects of my invention are to provide a folding and adjustable jack or platform for carrying paint-pails, brushes, tools, or material on inclined roofs as a convenience for painters and carpenters, doc. I attain these obj ectsby the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device supporting a pail ona roof. Fig. 2 is a view of the device folded. Fig. 3 is a plan view. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4 4, Fig. l; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the adjustable drag or cross-bar.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the construction of my device I use two pieces of sheet metal A and A, carrying two lugs 61. a on the two outer corners, hinged on the bolt 0. and adjustably connected by metal slots 0 to two other similar end pieces B and 13, provided with sharp points I) and b to engage with the roof. An adjustable cross-bar or drag a, Fig. 5, provided with prongs 11 'i 2', is set and fastened to the under side of the plate 13 by a bolt c',for the same purpose. Adjustable braces D and D, with slots (1 and d and fastened by means of a bolt and nut 6, are pivoted on the lugs f and f To place the jack in position on an inclined roof, as indicated by the broken lines, Fig. l, the nuts are all released, the plates A and B are placed in a horizontal position, and the parts adjusted so that the points on the drag c, b, and b engage with the roof. The nuts are then set and the jack ready for use.
In folding the device the nuts are released. The braces I) and D are swung toward the bolt a, bringing the parts together compactly, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a folding roof-jack the combination of 50 an adjustable top A B, a hinge a adjustable standards A B adjustable braces D D, an adjustable crossbar or drag 0 provided with prongs i, 1', t' as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a folding roof-jack, the combination of an adjustable top A, B, lugs a, a, bolt a, standards A B points I) and b, a cross-bar 0 provided with prongs, bolt 0, adjustable braces D and D with slots cl and cl bolt and nut e and lugsf, f, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RIENHART \VILKEN.
