SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. .368.878, dated August 23, 1887.

To @ZZ whom, it may concern: y Be it known that we, CHARLES DEr'rscH and CARL G. PEINGSTEN, the said DEI'rscH lbeing a citizen ofthe United States and the said -PEINGSTEN a subject of the Emperor of Germany, both residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Frames for Satchels, Purses, Bags, and other Articles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in frames for such articles as satchels, purses, bags, portemonnaies, and the like, as set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure lis a side elevation of a frame. Fig. 2 is a detail plan view of two parts of a frame with their inlays. Fig. 3 is a section in the plane x x, Fig. 2. Fig. A is atransverse section of a frame complete.

In the drawings, the letter A indicates an article such as a purse, bag, or ,the like, of leather, cloth, or other suitable material.

is the frame orjaws,hinged together at E. The edges of the bag A are secured to the jaws by being placed upon the seats C, after which the inlays D are riveted or secured to the jaws. The edges of the bag are secured between the inlays and the seats C.

' As seen in Figs. 3 and 4, the seats C are depressed, so that when the bag A and the inlays D are secured in place the inlays D will be liush with the inner edges or faces of the jaws B. Articles which are contained in the bag are thus not apt to catch at the jaws B, as the inlays D are on a level with the inner faces of said jaws, as seen in Fig. 4.

What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the jaws B, each having its lower edge provided with the depressed seat C, the bag A, having its edges arranged in said seats, and the two'vinlays D, secured, respectively, upon the edges of the bag flush with the inner faces of the jaws, substantially as shown and described.
