BRIDLE BIT.
No.- 360,296. Pat ented Mar. 29. 1887.
I VENTO Chunks EIHeinqc UNITED STATES PATENT Urrrce.
CHARLES E. HEINZE, OF NEXVARK, NEW JERSEY.
BRlDLE-BIT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 30,295, dated March 29, 1887.
Application filed October 27, 1886.
, T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. HEINZE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle-Bits; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of referencemarked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Theobject ofthis invention is to secure increased strength in a bridle-bit, to secure a more ornamental effect, and to reduce the cost of manufacture.
The invention consists in the improved bridle bit having the arrangements and combinations of parts, substantially as will be hereinafter set forth, and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters indicate corresponding parts in each of the several figures, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bit embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a front view of a portion of the same, partly in section; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line :0, Fig. 1, the latter figures illustrating certain modificacations in construction.
In said drawings, a indicates the cheekpiece of the bit, having the rein-ring b, a cap or rosette seat, 0, and mouth-piece bard, all
Serial No. 217,296. (No model.)
cast or forged or otherwise formed in one integral piece of iron or other suitable metal, whereby greater strength is secured in corn parison with a cheek-piece in which said parts are in two or more pieces secured together.
e is a cap or rosette, secured at its edges to the said seat either by soldering, riveting, or brazing, as in Fig. 3, or by securiug,as in Fig. 2. The said cap covers and conceals the head of the mouth-piece,as indicated in Fig. 1, and, being preferably made of brass or other ornamental metal, gives a finished appearance to the bit, and, furthermore, being preferably of sheet metal, provides a suitable position for a monogram, crest, or other onamental design.
The invention described may be employed in connection with any other form or construction of bit than the one shown.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new is In a bridle ''bit, the combination, with a mouth-piece and cap for covering the head of the mouth-piece, of a cheek-piece having a rein-ring, b, mouthpiece bar d, and a cap-scat or ring, 0, to receive a cap or rosette, said parts being arranged and combined substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of October, 1886.
CHARLES E. HEINZE.
