TROUSER cAnMENrs This invention relates to trouser-type garments for male or female wear and particularly to the fly construction of such garments. I
It is the principal objective of this invention to provide an improved fly construction for trouser garments capable of more economic manufacture than known arrangements..lt is a further objective of this invention to provide a simple flyconstruction which lends itself to a variety of styles of finish.
With the above stated objectives in view there is provided according to the invention a trouser garment including two leg portions united to form a crotch, and joining with further leg portions in the normal front and rear longitudinal crease areas to constitute a complete garment, each of said first mentioned leg portions having a transversely extending flap portion including one element of a fastening means such that when the elements of the fastening means are united the flap portions overlie one another to provide a fly means for the garment.
Conveniently each flap portion may include a lining piece extending from the extremity of the flap to the crease in each instance.
By uniting the leg portion about the crotch line and the normal longitudinal crease areas extending down the front center of each leg the stretching associated with the flap linings may be readily concealed. Furthermore, the shapeof the flap portions may be readily varied to produce different styles while providing a convenient fly means for the garment.
A practical arrangement of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIG. 1 shows a right-hand side inner leg panel for a pair of trousers constructed according to the invention. FIG. 2 is similar to FIG. 1 showing a left-hand panel; FIGS. la and 2a are details of illustrative lining pieces for the inner leg panels; FIG. 3 is a front elevation view of a pair of trousers incorporating the panels shown in FIGS. I and 2; FIG. 4 is a cross section taken the line 4-4 of FIG. 3; FIG. 5 is a cross section taken on the line 5-5 of FIG. 3; FIG. 6 is a view taken from the inside on the line 6-6 of FIG. 5; and FIGS. 7 and 8 show alternative styles of the fly front flap.
Referring now to the drawings, a pair of trousers is formed from two pairs of cloth portions or panels 9, l0 and ll, 12 united to form the finished garment. The first pair. of the panels 9, Ill are sewn together about the crotch line 13 to constitute the inside leg walls of the trousers and each of the second pairof panels ll, 12 are sewn to the longitudinal edges 14 of the first pair along the normal front 15 and rear crease line 16 to constitute the outer leg walls of the garment.
The upper front area of each of the first pair of panels is provided with a transversely extending flap portion such that in the finished garment these flaps l7, l8 overlie each other in the fly area with the flap extremities 19, 20 extending towards the crease area on the adjacent panel, the upper margin or edge 2], 22 of each flap portion being disposed adjacent the waist line 23 of the garment. Complementary fastening means for example buttons and holes or the elements of a slide fastener (not shown) are provided on the flap portions l7, 18 to provide a fly closure and the extremity of each flap portion is provided with a fastening element or elements 24 to engage v with a complementary element or elements 25 on the waist band of the garment.
Additionally further conventional fastener elements such as zippers Z or the like are provided in association with flap, with said elements lying adjacent one another in general alignment with the crotch line when the flap portions overlie one another to constitute a concealed fly closure.
The inner surface of each flap portion l7 18 is provided with a lining piece 26, 27 sewn to the marginal edges of the flaps (as shown in FIG. 6) and extending on the inner surface of the body portion of the gannent to terminate in the crease area 15 where the inner and outer leg wall portions 9, II and l0, 12 are united. It will be obvious that the shape of the flaps may be varied to provide different styles and these variations may be readily achieved by modification of a basic cutting pattern 28 as shown in FIG. la and FIG. 2a Thus, prior to cutting, the pattern corresponding to the leg panels 14 is overlaid with a pattern piece 28 shaped to suit the closure style desired.
The embodiments of FIGS. 7 and 8 are understood to be of generally the same construction and corresponding primed and double primed reference numbers have been applied thereto. No need is seen to repeat the specific description, since the variations in the overlying flaps constituting the fly area are deemed to be self-evident from the varied illustrations taken in conjunction with the foregoing descriptions for the previous embodiments.
I claim:
l. A trouser-type garment having a medial crotch, fly, and a waistband line area, and including two inside and two outside leg portions of which said two inside leg portions are united to form the crotch, and each respectively adjoining with said outside leg portions and fastened together to constitute a complete garment, which fastening at least in the front forms a front medial vertical crease line area for each leg; each of said inside leg portions having a transversely extending flap portion with a free extremity extending transversely beyond an imaginary vertical line extension of the generally medial crotch and having a vertical length commencing from intermediate a bottom center of the crotch area and extending up to the waistband line; one element of composite element fastening means being attached to each flap so that whenthe elements of said fastening means are united said respective flap portions smoothly overlie one another to provide a fly means for the garment, and wherein each flap portion has a lining piece extending from the transverse free extremity of the flap to said respective front crease line area in each instance and is physically joined thereat, whereby any stretching associated with the flaps or flap linings tending to result in wrinkles attendant either the initial assembly of the garment or the repeated fastening of the fly flaps is readily concealed.
2. A trouser garment as defined in claim 1 wherein said fastener elements comprise a slide fastener.
3. A trouser garment according to claim 1 including further fastener elements associated with each flap, said elements lying adjacent one another and in alignment with the crotch when the flap portions overlie one another to constitute a concealed fly closure.
4. A trouser garment according to claim 3 wherein said fastener elements comprise a slide fastener.
Claims (4)
