1-]. HAYES.
- STOVE PIPE HOLDER. No. 355.078; Patented Dec. 28, 1886.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR BY W ATTORNEYS;-
lin, in the county of Clinton and State of In- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
EDWIN HAYES, OF KIRKIJIN, INDIANA.
STOVE-PIPE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,078, dated December 28, 1886.
Application filed January 23, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN HAYES, of Kirkdiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stove-Pipe Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a section of stove-pipe, showing the application of my improved holder. Fig. 2 is aperspective view of the clamp and hook of my improved stovepipe holder.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
The ring A, which surrounds the stove-pipe B, is connected with the apertured ends of the angled plates 0 by inserting the ends of the wire into apertures a, formed in the plates, and bending the ends of the wire over theends of the plates.
The arms I) of the angled plates, which project outwardly from the stove-pipe,'are drawn together by a screw, 0, which passes through a hole in one of the angled plates into a threaded hole in the other angled plate. A hook, D, having a rightangled end, (1, is provided with an eye, e, which is received on the screw 0 between the angled plates 0 O. The eye 6 is formed wholly upon one side of the wire, to admit of allowing the body of the hook to lie parallel with the pipe B in the opening of the flue.
To apply the holder to the pipe, the hook D is placed in the opening of the flue through the angled end a, extending downward inside of the wall of the flue, and the eye 6, extending downward on the outer wall of the flue. The ring A being in place on the stove-pipe, and the screw 0 having been removed from the angled plates 0 O, the angled plates G are arranged upon opposite sides of the eye 6, and the screw 0 is inserted in one of the angled plates, passed through the eye e, and screwed into the other angled plate. s
The wall of the flue is embraced between the angled arm (I of the hook D and the eye 0, so that when the ring A is sccuredon'the stovepipe and connected with the hook D in the manner described the pi peB cannot be pushed into or removed from the opening into the flue.
I am aware that hooks for holding stovepipes in fines have been engaged and clamped to the pipe by bands having lugs on their ends to receive binding-screws, and I am also aware that a wire bandhaving eyes in its end to receive a fastening-bolt and a hook carrying a spring'lever, which engages the bolt that secures the ends of the said wire band, have been employed for holding a stove-pipe in the flue, and I therefore do not claim such inventions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The hereindescribed stove-pipe holder, consisting of the wire band A, the angle-plates- 0, having apertures a, to receive the ends of the wire band, the binding-screw c, and the hook D, formed with the eye 0 upon one side of the body thereof, to receive the bindingscrew between the said" angle-plates, as specified.
EDWIN HAYES. Witnesses:
T. MCGLANNOCK, J. B. PAIE.
