Be it known that I, JAMES W. LEASURE, of Bradford, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented anew and Irn-- proved Hotel-Register, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription.

My invention relates to improvements in that class of hotel-registers in which a sheet ofpaper, upon which the name, residence, &o., is recorded, is wound from one roller to another; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to theaccompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures. I

Inconstructing such an apparatus as is illustrated in the drawings above referred to I provide a box-like structure or case, A, in the upper face of which there are two transverse openings, a and a. Directly behind the openings a a, I arrange two shafts, B and B, that are mounted in bearings formed in the sides of the case, on of the projecting ends of each shaft being provided with a crank-handle, as O or 0. Upon the lower shaft, B, there is secured one end of a strip of paper, D, the other end of the strip being carried up through the slot or opening a, over the upper face of the case A, through the opening or slot at to the shaft B, to which shaft the end of the web is secured in any desired manner, the construction being such that when the shaft B is turned by means Above the aperture a there is a concave recess, h', designed to hold pens, pencils, &c.,

and upon either side of this recess h there are apertures within which I arrange ink-wells, as 7c is. An ornamented panel, L, is mounted on brackets Z so as to project diagonally upward from the upper end of the case A, and upon this panel I arrange spaces for the name of the hotel'at which the register is to be used, for the insertion of a copy of the statutes relating to the conduct of hotels, and for the advertisements-of any places of amusement in the town or city where the hotel is located. The panel L might also be arranged to receive other styles of notices. Upon the under side of the case A, I secure a metallic socket, N, arranged as best shown in Fig. 2, said socket being adapted to engage with a vertical post or standard, M, carried by a plate, 0, which plate is designed to rest upon or be secured to the desk of the hotel.
