My invention relates to advertising apparatus, and has for its object to provide a compact case in which advertising matter may be displayed for a limited period of time and then other advertising matter is brought into display position and the preceding mat ter is hidden, and turned for other displays.
The general object of this inventionis to provide a device of this kind which will pro.-
vide a relatively large area of advertising space without necessitating the use of a large case, and which is so constructed as to permit of the use of a case of rectangular, or ordinary box form; also to provide a simple construction for mounting the advertising cards avoiding the use of plate-form holders for the cards, and in which both faces of the advertising cards may be utilized. In
ward face of one card cooperates with the rear face of another card, the edges of the cards being substantially abutting so as to enable the advertising space to be utilized as though it were a single sheet or card. One of the objects of my invention is to provide a mounting for the cards which will prevent the cards warping and which will facilitate proper aligning of their abutting edges with each other when the advertisement is displayed.
These objects I accomplish with the app-aratns illustratcd in the accompanying drawin gs in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views and as described. in the specification forming a part of this application and pointed out in the appended claim.
Further objects of the invention will appear hereinafter. V
In the drawings in which I have shown the best and most substantial embodiment of my inventiomFigure 1 is a front elevation of the case with a displaycard therein which is composed of two cardboards with a horizontal meeting edge. Figure 2 is a transverse section on line 2-2 of Figure 1. Fig

The embodiment of the invention described includes a rectangular case A, with a sight opening B which may cover all of one side of said case except a narrow margin 1. Ac-
' cording to my invention, I provide a rotary carrier which'is mounted on an axis of rotation which is substantially in the plane of the front opening of a case or box carrying the mechanism of the device. On this rotary carrier, the advertising cards are pivotally mounted. The location of the pivotal mountings of these cards is most important, and according to my invention, they must lie ad jacent to the axis of rotation of the carrier. That is tosay, I attach the'inner edges of the advertising cards on pivots which are dis posed in a relatively small circle about the. axis of rotation of the carrier. This enables me to greatly reduce the size of 'the case or box in which the rotary carrier andcards are mounted and at the same time permits me tocase. I provide suitable means for rotating the carrier in a direction to carry the cards forwardly and toward the observer above the axis of the rotary carrier, and the axis of use an ordinary rectangular, or box form of the display of each advertisement, the forthe carrier is preferably located at about midheight' in the front opening of thec'ase. I also provide detent means above the axis of rotation of the carrier which cooperates with the carrier to hold the cards upright in the opening in succession and to permit the cards to fall by gravity in succession as they pass the detent-means. adjacent the ends of said case A. Any suitable means may be provided for rotating the rotary carrier which is formed by the two perforated discs D and their connecting shaft" or red C. For this purpose, I prefer to provide a small. motor, preferably an electric motor E, is mounted insaid'case A and onv the shaft of which is secured a worm pinion F, and the-teeth of which engage the teeth of a gear wheel G that is secured on a shaft II, which, in turn, is mounted in bearings and at right angles to the motor shaft. Another worm pinion J is secured on said'shaft H, and with its teeth meshing with'the teeth of another gear K, which is mounted adjacent one end of said case A and is secured on a shaft L parallel with the said motor shaft and worm pinion F. A spocket wheel is secured on said shaft L and is carried and drives a chain M which engages another vertising cards are unobstructed.

The display cards 0 have a vertical width or depth substantially equal to one-half the depth of the case A and are each mounted on two short pins N that are carried in the perforation P of said disks D, D, which allows the said card 0 to be suspended and hang downwardly except as they are bunched and carried over the upper travel, as shown in Figure 2. These pins H are embedded in the cards. The front face of one card and the rear or back of the following card having a complete display or picture shown in the sight opening as one picture or advertisement. The said cards are spaced on the pivoting pins N so that their adjacent edges will meet when the cards are on the same plane in the sight'opening, and this is accomplished by the perforations or bearing holesP which are spaced apart so that the distance between two holes P will coincide with the distance between two of said pins N. The said pins N are attached to a piece of steel tape T, which, when secured on the cards, may be easily sprung or curved laterally to insert the said pins into the holes .P of the disks. These steel tapes T are embeddedin the cards. By thus using both faces of a card as heretofore described, I am able to display more advertising matter in less space than has been the practice. In order that the cards carried in the uper half of the case will not turn on their respective pins N until the two coacting cards are in vertical plane, that is, substantially in the plane of the display opening as shown in Figure 2, I provide detent means which may be in the form of a narrow catch strip S provided on the intcri or of said case A.

The disks, each of which carries one end of each card, will be rotated with said rod C and will move one of the cards in the upper part of the case A on its pivot pins of rotation, that is to say, their inner ends are pivoted very near the axis of rotation, the result of which is that in the operation of the device the cards are always substantially in a radial position. Furthermore, the rods or shafts. N hold the adjacent edges of 1 the cards in a substantially straight line and prevent the cards warping. This insures that the edgesof the cards will abut properly at the point where an advertisement is being displayed.
The relatively small diameter of the discs D in combination with the cards of one-half the depth of the case, enables the full height of the case to be utilized as card area. In
this way my improvement enables a relatively large advertising space to be produced with a case of relatively small dimensions.
Having thus described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim In an advertising device of the kind described, the combination of a case, a shaft mounted therein, a pair of discs of relatively small diameter carried thereby, a plurality of pivot members with their ends pivotally mounted in the discs, advertising cards having a vertical width equal to substantially one-half the depth of the case, means for rotating the shaft so that the cards approach the observer above the shaft, said pivot members being embedded in the cards near their inner edges for supporting the same, and detent means cooperating with the cards in succession to hold the same in an upright position, to display two cards in a substantially.
