REVOLVING TARGET.
SPECIFICATIONfomiin part of Letters Patent No. 350,227, dated October 5, 1886.
1 Application filed April 8, 1886. Serial No. 198,209. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. ADAMs, of Fort McIntosh, Laredo, in the county of Webb and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Revolving Target, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to theaccompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate 1 corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new and improved revolving target. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a sec tional elevation taken on the line 00 a; of Fig. 2. The object of my invention is to provide a revolving target of improved and simplified construction; and the invention consists, principally, of a revolving central frame constructed to receive separate target frames, which may be easily detached from the frame for repairs or for other purposes'and replaced therein. I The invention also consists in the construe tion, arrangement, andcombination of parts, 1 all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the base of the target, formed of the side sills, ca, oross'sills b b, and central sills, c c, all framed into'each other. Rising from the central sills, 0 c, is the upright metal spindle B. This is secured in the base by the metal plates d (1, through which it passes, and upon it is placed the main post 0, which is bored at e to receive the spindle, and in the opening e is fitted the 3 5 metal bushing f, to prevent wear, and a plate,
g, and washer h are placed at the bottom .of the post, also to prevent wear as the post revolves. Framed into the post 0 are the crossarms D D, of equal length. These arms are 0 held securely to the post by the clamp-pieces h h, and to them are secured the plates J, on p which the bulls-eye and rings of the target are painted. The target-frames H are held in the slots G by the hand screws L L, which work in screw-threaded openings made in plate M, attached to the cross-pieces D in the slots G, as shown clearly in the drawings.
The revolving portion of the target is locked in position to hold one of the target-platesJ in position to receive the shot by a spring, K, se- 5 5 cured upon the base A,'and the spring is pro;- vided with a rod, K, by which it may be depressed to disengage the target by a footbar, K that reaches to a shelter, behind which the target-tender stands.
By constructing the target as described the same is cheap, durable, and practical, and the target-frames'H may be easily removed and replaced when the plates J require renewal.
Having thus described my invention, what I 6 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'- 1. In a target, the combination, with the revolving post 0 and arms D thereon, of the detachable target frames H, carried by said arms, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The base A, provided with the vertical spindle B, and the post 0, held upon the spindie and provided with the slotted arms D,and 7 5' screws L, in combination with the detachable target-frames H, secured to said arms by the screws L, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The base A, provided with avertical do spindle, B,and having secured to it the springlocking device K, in combination with the post 0, placed upon the spindle B, the horizontal arms D, attached to the post, and the separate target-frames H, adapted to be secured to thearms D, the locking device Kbeing arranged to engage with the lower arm, D, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
WILLIAM H. ADAMS.
