G.AHRENS.
PLASTERING STRIP. No. 347,080.
Patented Au 10, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE AHRENS, OF CRETE, ILLINOIS.
PLASTERiNG-STRIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 347,080, dated August 10, 1886.
Application filed April 20, 1886. Serial No. 199,507.
To ctZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE AHRENS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Crete, in the county of \Vill and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plastering-Strips, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
Dhis invention has for its object to produce plastering-strips that, by simple means, will provide a continuous wooden surface against the ceilihgjoists or against studs or furringstrips and behind the plastering, will economize in quantity of plastering material required, and will make the plastering more rigid with the wall, notwithstanding the shrinkage of the strips.
For this purpose my invention consists of strips grooved out to narrow their outer faces and to produce at one edge thereof two parallel tongues in such a manner tl1at,when such strips are secured with their rear-edges jointing each other, spaces are provided between their front edges with parallel or square tongues atone side that form dovetail-like grooves for theplaster to be crowded in, finding a rigid hold that cannot be lessened by (No model.)
the shrinkage of such strips, all as will be more fully hereinafter described and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, the figure represents a sectional view of my plasteringstrips as attached.
The wooden strips A, after being cut the desired thickness and width, are grooved out in a shaping or planing machine, as shown in drawing, to form to one edge a tapering bottom flange, d, and an outer tongue, I), and to the opposite edge a concave chamfer, c, that when two strips are put together will provide a hook-shaped groove between, that will hold the plaster crowded therein from releasing its hold.
\V'hat I claim is As an article of manufacture, plastering strips grooved out at one edge to fornrfiange (Z and tongue I), and having to its opposite edge a concave chamfer, c, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE AI-IRENS.
