Be it known that I, O. l?. FITCH, of Morristown, in the State lof Indiana, have' invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoppers for Fruit-J ars; and I hereby declare that the following .is a true and exact description of the same, reference being` had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The letter A in the drawing represents an At the top ofthe neck of the jar is the flange B, beveled on the lower side. On this is laid they narrow circle or strip of india-rubber C.

The l'etter'D is the stopper of thej ar, which, in place ofpenetrating downward in the mouth of the jar,consists of a glass plate or disk laid on the'strip of rubber C.

E is a clamp formed of two parts, and hinged at the point F with flanges at g g, through which a screw is made to pass. adapted to thel circular shape of the disk, and,

being concave on the inner side,when tightlyA screwed at g g presses the stopper down, and thus effectually excludes the air.

What I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
