RELEASING DEVIGE.
No. 344,674. Patented June 29, 1886.
WITNESSES IJV VEJVTOR UNITE WILLIAM H. NEUN, OF GRENOLA, KANSAS.
RELEASING DEVICE.
SPEQIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 344,67 t, dated June 29, 1886.
Application filed March 81, 1886. Serial No. 197,245. INC model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. NEUN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Grenola, in the county of Ell; and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Releasing-Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification and in which- L Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved hitching device applied, and Fig. 2 is a similar view,on an enlarged scale,of the device.
, Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
My invention has relation to that class of hitching devices to be applied in stables or barns for simultaneously releasing all the stock tied up in the several stalls in case of an accident; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates a base-plate, which may be socured to the wall or front partition of the stall at any convenient place, and this plate is formed with two transversely perforatedlugs, B B, in which slides a bolt, 0, havingone end D turned up and provided with two perforations, E and F. The ring G,to which the animal is tied by means of any suitable halter strap or chain, is placed upon the bolt between the two perforated lugs, and is designed to remain upon the bolt excepting when all the stock is to be released, and two wires, H and I,are secured with their endsin the perforationsin the upwardly-turned end of the bolt and are connected, respectively, to aspring,
J, and to a handle,K, the spring drawing the bolt into the perforations in the lugs. \Vhen a number of the devices are placed in a line, the spring is secured at one end of the row of stalls, and the handle is secured at the other end of the row, passing through a perforation in the wall of the stable or barn, or through a partition within the same at a convenient place, where access may be had in case ofa fire or other accident with ease and without danger.
The several devices are connected by the wires, the wire extending toward the spring being secured at its other end to the perfora tion in the bolt farthest from the spring. and it will be seen, that the spring will hold all the bolts within the perforated ears, while a pull upon the handle will draw all the bolts in the perforated lugs, releasing all the rings simultaneously, and allowing the stock to run out of their stalls.
Having thus described myinvention I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States.
The combination, in a hitching device,of a base-plate having two transverselyperforated ears, a bolt sliding in the perforated ears, and having one end turned up and provided with two perforations, wires secured at their ends in the perforations of the turned-up end, a ring placed upon the bolt between the ears, and aspring at the end of one wire drawing the bolt into the perforations in the lugs, and a handle at the end of the other wire, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VVILLTAM H. NEUN.
