G. B. HICKEY Aug. 20, 1968 UR INAL Filed Oct. 15, 1965 I lids w Ghzdys B. lfi'ckel/ United States Patent 3,397,698 URINAL Gladys B. Hickey, 55 Wachusett St., Worcester, Mass. 01605 Filed Oct. 15, 1965, Ser. No. 496,598 5 Claims. (Cl. 128-295) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A urinal comprising a flexible water-proof bag with removable absorbent material lining the bag andan outlet at the lower end thereof, together with :a pair of tubes which are connected with respect to said outlet, each tube being adapted to run down a trouser leg to a urinereceiving container, one in each trouser leg, and there being removable absorbent material in each of said containers.
This is an invention relating to urinals worn by male persons afiiicted with incontinence of urine or for some similar reason.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a device of the class described which includes absorbent material which can be changed when necessary without the necessity of either removing the apparatus from the person of the wearer or making any tedious adjustments, etc. To this end the urinal comprises a bag to receive the male member, together with a tube or tubes leading to containers, these containers including disposable absorbent material which can be of paper, textiles, sponges, or the like.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a. device of the class described which prevents leaking by the use of a soft elastometric ring or the like which may be applied to the male member and closes the bag in which the male member is received so as to prevent overflow or leaking.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of new and improved containers for the absorbent material, which containers may be secured to the garment rather than to the person of the wearer, thus making the entire device much more comfortable and easier to apply, and also providing for easier removal and exchange of the aforesaid absorbent material.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a dual tube for the urinal bag, each tube leading to a separate container for removable absorbent material, e.g., one in each leg of a pair of trousers or the like which the user can wear rather than having containers strapped to his legs, etc. as in the prior art; together with means for opening or closing either tube as may be found convenient so that one container may be filled to capacity and the device switched to the other container, in case that it is not convenient to change the absorbent material in a filled container.
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a lining for the urinal bag of absorbent material so as to make it more comfortable to wear and to help in preventing leakage, overflow, etc.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in front elevation illustrating the invention, parts being in section, and
FIG. 2 is a rear view of the urinal bag.
To illustrate the invention, the same is shown as being provided with a belt or any other kind of support 10. This belt may be continuous and have Velcro on portions thereof for the purpose of detachably attaching the urinal bag 12 thereto or it may be as shown in FIG. 1 provided with 3,397,698 Patented Aug. 20, 1968 snap fasteners 14 or the like. The bag 12 is conveniently made of plastic or some other similar material and the male member is inserted therein as for instance through an'opening as at 16 in the rear portion thereof. About this opening 16 there is provided an elastometric soft resilient constrictive ring 18 which is adapted to lightly but firmly engage the male member preventing any leakage from the urinal bag 12. The urinal bag also is preferably provided with a scrotum receiving bag of suitable material as at 20 which may have an elastic entrance portion at 22, this bag being provided for more comfortably positioning the urinal bag.
The lower end of the urinal bag is provided with a fitting 24 which may be of any suitable material and to this fitting there are secured a pair of tubes forming an inverted V-shaped arrangement as indicated at 26 and 28. Each tube is provided with a shutoff valve as at 30 and 32 so that the urine will flow from the urinal bag down through a selected tube 26 or 28.
The reference character 34 indicates a bifurcated garment such as a pair of trousers to be worn by the user of the urinal bag. These trousers are provided with means such as Velcro as at 36 for the detachable securement thereto of containers 38 which are preferably made of a flexible impervious material. This can be plastic or textile material with an interior lining of impervious material, but these containers receive removable absorbent material generally indicated at 40. The top of the containers at 42 may be open or they may be closed by a flap or the like of any kind or construction which may be desired, and which can also be made leakproof.
It is also preferred that the interior walls of the urinal bag 12 be provided with absorbent material as a lining and this can also be removable.
It will be seen that the present invention provides for the utmost in comfort and also in service to the person afliicted with incontinence of urine. The removable lining in the urinal bag 12 can be replaced when necessary but it not only provides for comfort of the member but also aids against possible leaking. The ring at 18 precludes leakage in the event that due to some reason the urinal bag should become saturated and full, which however is not likely in view of the nature of the absorbent liner thereof and the containers 38.
By opening one valve 30 and closing the other at 32, only a single one of the removable containers 38 is used at a time, and when the absorbent material therein becomes saturated, the other valve is opened and valve 30 closed, whereupon at a convenient time or place the absorbent material in the container 38 attached to tube 26 can be removed and replaced while the other container is being utilized for the purpose described.
Having thus described my invention and the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited tothe details herein disclosed, otherwise than as set forth in the claims, but what I claim is:
1. A urinal comprising an elongated bag of flexible waterproof material provided at its lower end with an outlet, a tube connected to said outlet, a container connected to said tube at the other end thereof, means supporting said bag on the body of the wearer, means detachably connecting the bag to said supporting means, removable absorbent material lining said bag, removable absorbent material in the container at the end of the tube, and means detachably securing said container to a garment worn by the user of the urinal.
2. The urinal bag of claim 1 wherein the garment is bifurcated and including a second tube, a second container therefor, said container securing means securing said containers at the interior surfaces of the legs of the bifurcated garment.
3. The urinal bag of claim 1 wherein the garment is bifurcated and including a second tube a second container therefor, said container securing means securing said containers at the interior surfaces of the legs of the bifurcated garment and removable absorbent material in each of said containers.
4. The urinal bag of claim 1 wherein the garment is bifurcated and including a second tube, a second container therefor, said container securing means securing said containers at the interior surfaces of the legs of the bifurcated garment removable absorbent material in each of said containers, and a valve in each tube for selectively closing either tube.
5. The urinal of claim 1 including an aperture therein adapted to engage said'niale" member'an'd seal the bag against leakage.
