(Cl. 128295) This invention relates to surgical appliances, and more particularly to a urine-retaining device for a male person afliicted with a urinary ailment or deficiency preventing him from controlling discharge of urine.

A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved urine retaining device for a male person, said device being simple in construction, being comfortable to wear, and causing substantially no hindrance to body movements.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved urine-retaining device for a male person, said device being inexpensive to manufacture, being easily detachable whenever required, being completely pliable and yieldable, and providing effective protection against irritation produced by contact of portions of the body with urine and from staining or soiling of the wearers clothing.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved urine-retaining device for a male person, said device being provided with easily changeable moistureabsorbent means which can be readily replaced whenever required and which serves .as a means to receive and absorb involuntarily discharged urine.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of an improved urine-retaining device constructed in accordance with the present invention, shown in wearing position.

FIGURE 2 is a side elevational view of the device of FIGURE 1.

FIGURE 3 is a rear elevational view of the device of FIGURE 1.

FIGURE 4 is an enlarged vertical cross sectional view taken substantially on the line 44 of FIGURE 1.

FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary top perspective view, with parts broken away, of the device of FIGURES 1 to 4.

Referring to the drawings, 11 generally designates a urine-retaining device for a male person, the device being constructed in accordance with the present invention. The device 11 comprises a flexible waist band 12 adapted to be fastened around the persons waist in the manner diagrammatically illustrated in FIGURES l, 2 and 3, the waist band 12 being provided with suitable tension adjusting means, for example, being provided with front and rear ends, each having a transversely extending loop 13 through which an adjacent end portion of the waist band is looped, said adjacent end portion being provided with a clamping buckle member 14 which receives the waist band and which may be adjusted therealong to adjust the tension of the waist band around the persons waist. The waist band 12 is preferably made of elastic material so that it is yieldable and so that it flexes substantially freely with body movements.

Designated at 15, 15 are respective depending flap members of substantial size and of flexible material, such as cloth, or the like, said flap members being secured to the opposite side portions of the waist band 12 so as tobe engageable on the wearers hips in the manner shown in FIGURES l, 2 and 3.

Designated generally at 16 is a flexible bag member adapted to receive the male organs, the bag member 16 being supported from the depending side flap members 15, 15 by respective pairs of adjustable flexible strap members 17, 17 and 18, 18 secured to the top front edge portions and the top rear portion of the flexible bag "ice member 16. Thus, the flexible bag member 16 is provided at its front edge with an upwardly projecting, arcuately curved apron member 19 of waterproof flexible material, and the adjustable straps 17, 17 are fastened to respective edge portions of the apron member 19' at substantially equal distances on opposite sides of the central vertical plane of the device, the strap members 17, 17 being provided with snap fastener elements 20 at their upper ends which are detachably engaged with mating snap fastener elements provided on the front marginal portions of the depending flap members 15. The rear portion of the bag member 16 is formed with a central apex 21 and the adjustable rear strap members 18, 18 are secured respectively to the opposite sides of said .apex and are provided at their upper ends with snap fastener elements 22 which detachably engage with mating snap fastener elements provided on the rear marginal portions of the depending flexible flap members 15, 15.

The bag member 16 comprises an outer flexible receptacle 23 of suitable waterproof flexible material, such as flexible waterproof fabric material, shaped to generally conform with the contour of male organs and to receive same. Secured to the side and rear edges of the outer receptacle 23, as by stitching, or the like, is an inner liner member 24 of similar flexible waterproof material, such as thin flexible waterproof fabric material, the inner liner member 24 being shaped to receive the genitals. The inner liner 24 is formed at its upper forward portion with a notch 25 which is of substantial size and which defines, with respect to the front portion of the receptacle 23, a penis-receiving opening 27 communicating with the space between the inner lining member 24 and the outer receptacle member 23.

Designated at 28 is a lining of flexible absorbent material, such as flannel, or the like, which is detachably secured in the space between the inner and outer members 24 and 23 and which is substantially coextensive in area with the inside surface of the outer flexible bag member 23, the liner 28 being provided with snap fastener elements 29 detachably engaging with cooperating snap fastener elements carried by respective depending flexible tab members 30 which are secured to the edge portion of the bag and which depend inwardly into the space between the inner liner member 24 and the outer receptacle member 23. A depending flexible tab member 30 may be provided at each side of the bag and an additional depending flexible tab member 30 may be provided .at the front of the bag and at the rear of the bag, as shown in FIGURE 5, so that the absorbent lining member 28 is supported at four points spaced around its margin and is thus held in position substantially engaging the inside surface of the outer receptacle member 23, as illustrated in FIGURE 4.

A protective depending flexible flap member 31 is secured to the top front edge of the opening 27, said flexible flap 31 being of suficient height to cover the front marginal portion of the liner 28 and the snap fastener element provided at this location.

The edges of the bag member 16 are provided with a suitable flexible hem 33, and the top front edge of the inner liner 24 is provided with a similar flexible hem 34, the hems 33 and 34 being preferably of relatively soft cushioning material.

In use, the device is worn so that the genitals are received in the inner container 24 and the penis inserted through the opening 27 into the space between the inner container 24 and the absorbent liner 28. The involuntarily discharged urine is received by the absorbent liner 28 and is absorbed therein, the inner receptacle 24 thus serving as a shield to prevent contact of the genitals with the moisture, whereby irritation and discomfort from such contact is minimized.

When the absorbent liner member 28 becomes saturated, it may be easily replaced by detaching same, the inner receptacle 24 being invertible so that access may be obtained to the interior space containing the lining member 28, and so that lining member may be easily detached from the supporting tabs 30 and may be replaced by a new dry lining member.

The outer bag member 23 may be formed of any suitable flexible pliable waterproof material, such as soft and pliable waterproof fabric, and the inner receptacle 24 may be formed of the same material. The supporting bands 17 and 18 vmay be formed of any suitable flexible, preferably elastic material, so that the bands are freely yieldable to conform with body movements.

While a specific embodiment of an improved urineretaining bag device for a male person has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A urine-retaining device for a male person comprising a flexible band member adapted to be fastened around the personn waist, a pair of depending flap members secured to the opposite side portions of said band member, a flexible bag member adapted to receive the male organs, a plurality of flexible straps supportingly connecting said bag member to said flap members, an inner flexible liner secured to the side and rear edges of said bag member and being adapted to receive the genitals, said inner liner being formed at its forward upper portion with a notch defining a penis-receiving opening communicating with the space between said liner and the bag member, a removable lining of absorbent material in said space and snap fastener means detachably securing the marginal portions of the absorbent lining to the edge of the bag member.

A urine-retaining device for a male person comprising a flexible band member adapted to be fastened around the persons waist, a pair of depending flap members secured to the opposite side portions of said band member, a flexible bag member adapted to receive the male organs, a plurality of flexible straps supportingly connecting said bag member to said flap members, an inner flexible liner secured to the side and rear edges of said bag member and being adapted to receive the genitals, said inner liner being formed at its upper forward portion with a notch defining a penis-receiving opening communicating with the space between said liner and the bag member, a removable lining of absorbent mate rial in said space, snap fastener means detachably securing the marginal portions of the absorbent lining to the edge of the bag member, and an upstanding arcuately curved apron member on the top forward edge portion of said flexible bag member.

A urine-retaining device for a male person comprising a flexible band member adapted to be fastened around the persons waist, a pair of depending flap members secured to the opposite side portions of said band member, a flexible bag member adapted to receive the male organs, a plurality of adjustable flexible straps supportingly connecting said bag member to said flap members, an inner flexible liner of waterproof material secured to the side and rear edges of said bag member and being adapted to receive the genitals, said inner liner being formed at its upper forward portion with a notch defining a penis-receiving opening communicating with the space between said liner and the bag member, a hem of relatively soft cushioning material secured over the edge of said notch, a lining of absorbent material substantially coextensive with said bag member removably disposed in said space, snap fastener means detachably securing the marginal portions of the absorbent lining to the edge of the 'bag member, a depending flexible flap member secured to the edge of the bag member and overlying said snap fastener means, and an upstanding arcuately curved apron member of waterproof material on the top forward edge portion of said flexible bag member.
