APPLICATORS Filed JarL. 13, 1965 INVENTOR BERN ICE BATES ATTORNEYS United States Patent 3,332,429 APPLICATORS Bernice Bates, 2287 N. Lake Drive, Milwaukee, Wis. 53202 Filed Jan. 13, 1965, Ser. No. 425,314 3 Claims. (Cl. 132-79) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Includes an applicator and receptacle which is adapted to freeze liquid cosmetics into a form where it is rigidly associated with the applicator which also acts as the cover for the container. The liquid cosmetics are molded by a receptacle with tapered sides so they are tapered at their sides for easy removal. Also the receptacle is curved at the bottom thereof to form the cosmetics with a curve at the bottom thereof that conforms to the facial features of a user so that they can be so applied.
My invention relates to applicators, and more particularly to an applicator for applying lotions, or cosmetics, to the facial features of the user.
The object of my invention is to provide a container, or receptacle in combination with a cover acting as an applicator for cosmetics, or the like.
Another object of my invention is to provide an applicator in combination with a container for cosmetic lotion which is frozen into a solid mass, the mass being supported by the applicator in the form of a cover, to enable removal of .the mass from the container in order to ready the mass for use.
Still another object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described that acts as a receptacle -for the cosmetic or the like, in which the cosmetic lotion is frozen into a solid mass, imbedded onto attaching members forming an integral part of the cover, thereby enabling the cover to be removed with the cosmetic attached thereto for use.
A further object of my invention is to have the shape and contour of the container arranged in a manner to com form with the facial features of the user, when applied.
A still further object of my invention is to arrange the inner surface of the container in a tapered manner, to enable the frozen mass or contents to be easily removed when lifting the cover supporting the mass of frozen tion, or cosmetic.
Still another object of my invention is to have the cover constructed in a manner to permit filling the container before refrigeration.
It is manifest to anyone familiar with beauty treatments administered in beauty salons or the like, that quite frequently cold applications are applied by the attendant while administering the treatment. It is the prime purpose of my invention to provide a device that permits the cosmetic material to be frozen into a solid mass in the container, and to be applied to the features to be treated, by removing the cover with the contents of the container attached thereto, and employing the cover as an applicator while applying the lotion.
The device is simple in construction, easy to service, and highly efiicient for the operation for which it is intended.
Other and further objects of my invention will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, when taken in conjunction with the drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of one form of my invention, showing the cover supported by the enclosure, and showing an open space surrounding the peripheral edge of the cover, to permit the container to be filled when replacing a portion of the contents used during the applicaktion of the cosmetic or lotion;
3,332,429 Patented July 25, 1967 FIG. 2 is a view of the device in FIG. 1 showing the cover raised from the enclosure for lifting the cosmetic lotion ready for use;
FIG. 3 is a vertical cross-sectional view of the enclosure with the cover disposed thereon prior to filling;
FIG. 4 is a vertical cross-sectional view of another form of my invention with the cover supporting the lotion lifted from the container, and ready for use;
FIG. 5 is a vertical cross-sectional view of still another form of my invention with the lotion supported by the cover; and
FIG. 6 is even still another form of construction, showing a plurality of cavities, each provided with a cover, and showing one cover removed with the cosmetic mass attached thereto.
Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and referring now to the same, the character 10 shows a container or receptacle constructed of plastic, or the like, radially formed at various locations, to fit the facial features when the contents is applied. The inner surface of the receptacle is shown tapered at 11, to a point where the upper end is larger than the lower end, and showing curved portions 12 and 13, to permit contents shown as 14 Within the container 10 to assume a curved con-tour, thereby eliminating any rectangular or sharp edges on the contents 14 when it is refrigerated into a solid mass.
The cover shown as 15 is equipped with a gripping means such as a handle, or knob shown as 15, and the bottom surface of the cover 15 is equipped with attaching means such as attaching members, which may be of varied design as shown as 16 in FIG. 3, 17 in FIG. 4 and '18 in FIG. 5. These attaching members 16, 17 and 18, are shown integrally constructed and forming a part of the cover 15.
By referring to the various figures, it will be noted that the cover 15 is shown smaller in area than the open end of the container 10, leaving an open space shown as 19, around the outer periphery of the cover 15. The cover 15 is provided with outwardly extending members 20 for contact with the upper surface of the vertical walls of the container 1%, which walls may be provided with recesses (not shown) in which the members 20 may be disposed.
The open space permits the refilling of the receptacle 10 with liquid cosmetic for subsequent freezing without raising the cover with the solid cosmetic attached thereto. It should be realized that the same result could be accomplished if the cover fitted the container around the entire container edge, and openings were provided for refilling purposes.
In FIG. 6, I show a container 22 having a plurality of cavities 21, each provided with a separate cover 15 constructed as shown in the other figures, and each supporting a mass 14 of cosmetics for application, thereby providing a plurality of units which may be removed individually, one at a time from the refrigerator.
From the above description, it will become manifest that the device is simple in construction and easy to manipulate.
The container 10 is filled with the cosmetic lotion 14, and the cover 15 is placed onto the top of the walls of the container 10, with the members 16, 17 or 18, disposed and imbedded in the cosmetic mass 14, at which time the entire unit is placed into a refrigerator, Where the cosmetic mass 14 is frozen to a solid consistency.
When the device is to be used, it is taken from the refrigerator, the cover 15 with the frozen mass 14 attached thereto is used as an applicator. Thus, the frozen mass of lotion or cosmetic is applied to the facial features of the person receiving treatment. After use the cover 15 is again replaced onto the container, and if a portion of the frozen mass is worn away due to the application, the
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and I desired to secure by Letters Patent in the United States 1. A cosmetic box for a liquid cosmetic which is contained therein after being frozen to its solid form comprising: a receptacle for containing said cosmetic, said receptacle having an open top, side walls that taper in- Ward from said top to the bottom of said receptacle to provide ease of removal of said cosmetic, an applicator cover associatable with said receptacle at the top thereof, said applicator cover including outwardly extending members that rest on said top end, the area of said cover being dimensioned with an area less than the open area of said top to provide a space therebetween in order that said receptacle can be refilled with said cosmetic with said applicator cover resting on said receptacle and thereafter frozen, said receptacle having an inside bottom end which is formed with a curved portion that conforms to the facial form of a user, and attaching means extending downward from said applicator cover for fixed association with said cosmetic after being frozen, whereby said cosmetic can be applied to the skin of the user by removing said cover from said receptacle along with said cosmetic in order that said cosmetic is exposed for this purpose.
2. A cosmetic box, as defined in claim 1, wherein said attaching means comprises a plurality of attaching members integrally formed to said bottom side of said cover,
3. A cosmetic box, as defined in claim 2, wherein each of said attaching members includes a sharp penetrating edge.
