G. G. SCOTT.
BACK FOR SHEET MUSIG. No. 331,555. Patented Dec. 1, 1885..
WITNESSES INVENTOR ugd m ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GERARD G. SCOTT, OF BRADFORD, PENNSYLVANIA.
BACK FOR SH EET-MUSIC.
SPECEPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 331,555, dated December l, 1885.
Application filed December 13, 1884. Serial No. 150,271. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GERARD G. Soorr, of Bradford, in the county of McKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Back for Sheet-Music, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved back for uniting the several sheets of sheet-music either when new or after they have become detached by continued use, thus preventing the loss of the single sheets.
The invention consists in a fabric on one surface of which two gummed strips are socured longitudinally, the inner edges of the said strips being separated a short distance from each other.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying.
drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved back for sheet-music. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional elevation of two united backs. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of a binder for three sheets. Fig. 4c is a cross-sectional view of two united backs and the sheets secured to the same.
The strips 0, of paper, are secured by means of adhesive material to the same surface of a strip, A, of canvas or other fabric, or leather, the paper strips 0 extending from the edges of the fabric strip to within a short distance from the longitudinal central line of the same, so that the fabric is visible between the inner edges of the paper strips. The outer or exposed surfaces are gunimed. The gummed surfaces of the paper strips are moistened, and the outer side of the sheets D of sheetmusic, 850., are placed at their inner edges on the moistened gummed parts, whereby the sheets are secured on the strips 0, and are thus connected with the stripA. In case four sheets are to be united, the fabric stripsA are sewed together along their longitudinal central lines, each strip A being provided with two gummed strips, 0, on the same side as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. In case three sheets, D, are united, a strip, A, provided with two gummed strips, 0, and half a strip, A, provided with one gummed strip, 0., are sewed together along the longitudinal central line of the strip A having the two gumrned strips 0, as shown in Fig. 3. The fabric strip A is strong and durable, and prevents separating of the sheets D, and the gummed strips 0 facilitate uniting the sheets D with the back or strip A. If more than four sheets, D, are to be united, more than two fabric strips having gumined strips 0 are sewed together.-
The above-described back may be used for uniting all kinds of sheets. As the middle part of the fabric strip is uncovered, it can fold easily without breaking or tearing, and as the paper strips 0 are secured on the fabric strip throughout their entire length they are not apt to be torn off.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
back for sheetniusic, consisting of a fabrio strip on one surface of which two g ummed paper strips are secured longitudinally, the inner edges of the gummed strips being sepa rated a short distance from each other, substantially as herein shown and described.
GERARD O. SCOTT.
