Description

(N10 Model.) N. A. TANNER.
CLAMP FOR ROLLER SKATES.
Patented 001:.v 27,'1885,-.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEQ NORMAN A. TANNER, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
'CLAM'FI' FOR ROLLER-SKATES.
ELPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent-No. 329.239, dated October 27, 1885. Application filed May 5, 1855. Serial No. 164,459. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NORMAN A. TANNER, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clamps for Roller- Skates, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying'drawings, in whichthereby doing away with. the leather straps which are now in use on that class of skates.
In the drawings, ,A represents the plate, which is to be securedto the wooden foot-rest by screws or their equivalent, through holes a a a-a. Upon the under side of the plate A inclined projections B are formed, to serve as guides for the clamping-pieces C C. The
clamping-pieces are provided at their inner ends with bearings D D, screw-threaded, corresponding to the right and left hand screwthreaded key E. Upon the center of the plate a roller-skate. It is made from cast metal,
a downwardly-projecting journal, F, is formed as a bearing for that portion of the key midway between the threaded parts. The clamping pieces 0 C have at their outer ends upward -projections c 0, p ovided with a fillet, d,whicl1 add; materially to the strength of that portion of the clamp.
The operation of the clamp is too well known to require description in this specification.
The clamp as here described and shown in the illustration is an article by itself, and can be readily adjusted to the wooden foot-rest of 45 cheap, and durable, and can be placed upon the market.
Having-thus described my invent-ion, what I claim as a new article of manufacture is- In a clamp for roller skates, the plate A, having inclined projections B B and journal F, in combination with the clamping-pieces C C, having bearings D D at their inner ends, provided with upward projections coat their outer ends, said outer projections provided with a fillet, d, and the screw-threaded key E, all as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' Non-MAN A. TANNER.
Witnesses: HENRY STORER, ROBERT LUTZ.
