Description

1966 R. P. GILLESPIE 3 PLASTIC BUSINESS OR CALLING CARD DISPENSER Filed Oct. 20, 1964 INVENTOR.
xz zmzp F 6/164 419F12 United States Patent 3,286,823 PLASTIC BUSINESS R CALLING CARD DISPENSER Richard P. Giilespie, Passaic, N.J., assignor to Berlin & Jones Co., East Rutherford, NJ. Filed Oct. 20, 1964, Ser. No. 405,100 1 Claim. (Cl. 206-39) This invention relates generally to containers and more particularly to card case dispensers.
It is common practice in business for a man to carry calling cards. While various cases for such cards are available, they are generally awkward to use and fail to prevent bending and general deterioration of the cards which they en-case.
Therefore, an object of this invention is to provide a case for calling cards which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and is of rugged construction.
Another object of this invention is to provide the foregoing case, which is simple to use and provides adequate protection for the cards it encases.
The foregoing and other objects and advantages will become more apparent to those skilled in the art by referring to the following description, together with the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a card case made in accordance with this invention;
FIGURE 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of FIGURE 2.
Referring now to the drawings, a case made in accordance with this invention, is comprised of a bottom cover portion 11, and a top cover portion 16, which cooperate with one another.
The bottom cover portion 11 has a rectangular wall 12, with an upwardly extending peripheral flange 13 to define a rectangular recess 14. The top cover portion 16 has a rectangular wall 17 coincident with wall 12 and has 21 depending peripheral flange 18 to define a rectangular recess 19. Thus, when case 10 is closed with flanges 13 and 18 abutting one another, the recesses 14 and 19 combine to define 'a rectangular chamber 21 formed by walls 12 and 17 spaced from each other by flanges 14 and 19, which enclose the sides of the formed chamber.
Flange 13 along one of the longer sides of wall 12, is provided with a pair of spaced hinge members which cooperate with a pair of spaced hinge members provided on the corresponding portion of flange 18 to pivotally join the cover 11 and 16 together. The flanges 13 and 18 on the side of ease 10 opposite from hinge portions 15 and 12 is provided with a snap catch 22 to prevent case 10 from opening and is merely a recess in one flange and a tongue which extends from the other end engages the recess.
3,286,823 Patented Nov. 22, 1966 An opening 23 is provided in one of the rectangular walls, in this instance wall 17, to permit a user to frictionally engage the top card C in case 10 and slide it out through a slot 24. For this, a slot 24 is provided in each portion of flange 18 at the ends of wall 17 between the flange portions having the hinges 15/20 and the pump lock 22. The top wall of each slot 24 is flush with the inner surface of wall 17 to permit unobstructed ejection of the top card C.
A follower plate 26 is disposed in chamber 21 and a spring is provided between the plate and wall 12 to engage the cards C in case 10 and urge them toward wall 17.
While certain novel features of my invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claims, it will be understood that various omissions, substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A card case comprising a pair of substantially like upper and lower box-shaped cover portions each having 2. rectangular wall and a perimetral flange and with the flanges of each cover portion disposed in opposed abutting relationship defining a rectangular chamber for releasably storing a stack of cards, hinge means at one longer side of the case for pivotally connecting the cover portions to one another, catch means on the longer side of the case opposite from the hinge means for releasably holding the cover portions together in opposed relationship, the rectangular wall of the upper cover portion having a central elongated opening therethrough to permit frictional engagement of the top card of the stack therein for slidably ejecting the engaged card, a narrow slot at each transverse flange of the upper cover portion flush with the inside surf-ace of its rectangular wall to permit unobstructed ejection of the top card of the stack in either direction, a follower plate within the lower cover portion engageable with the lowermost card of the stack and a bowed leaf spring disposed between the follower plate and the rectangular wall of the lower cover portion for urging the cards therein toward the rectangular wall of the upper cover portion having the opening therethrough.
