V. BERTHELOT.
HOOK BUCKLE. No. 326,385. Patented Sept. 15, 1885.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR:
wd/21m ATTORNEYS.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VICTOR BERTHELOT, OF CANNON STORE, LOUISIANA.
HOOK-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,385, dated September 15, 1885.
Application filed June 24, 1885.
To all whom, it may concern.
Be it known that I, VICTOR BERTHELOT, of Cannon Store, in the parish of Iberville and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Hook-Buckle, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a plan view of my new and improved buckle. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the front edge of the buckle.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
A represents the frame of my new buckle, which is formed or provided with the hook a at one end. At its other end the frame A is slotted, as shown at b b, to form the cross bars 0 d e. The central bar, d, is formed with the points or teeth f, to retain the strap or strip of canvas to which the buckle may be applied, which strap or canvas will be passed through slots Z2 1), under bar 6, over toothed bar (1, and under bar 0 or the remainder of the buckle. A bar or lever, B, is hinged to the frame Aby the hinge g. This bar B is adapted to be closed ovei" the frame A in line with the slot b and to be locked in closed position, and it is formed with points or teethf to engage with the strap or canvas to which the buckle may be applied for holding the buckle in place upon the strap or canvas.
The means I employ for locking the lever or bar B consists of a button or lever, O, pivoted at h to the frame A and adapted to be turned over the end of the bar B and held by the keeper or book D, formed upon or secured to (No model.)
the hook or keeper, causing the point z" of the keeper-D to lock the lever in place. To prevent lateral movement of the free end of the bar B, I notch the frame A to form the stopsj j, and form the downwardly-projecting legj upon the bar B, which closes between the stopsjj, as shown clearly in the drawings.
By constructing the buckle as described the same is very cheap and practical, and easy to shift upon the strap or canvas.
- In place of the hook to, any other form of attaching device may be used.. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The buckle-frame A, in combination with the bar B, hinged at one end to the side of the frame, and a locking device on the frame for engaging the free end of the lever when swung down, substantially as set forth.
2. The buckle-frame A, having the notchformiug stopsjj on one side, in combination with the bar B, hinged to the opposite side of the frame and provided with a leg, j, constructed to enter said notch, and a locking device on the frame adap'ed to engage said hinged bar and hold "it closed, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with the buckle-frame A, having the slots 12 b and toothed bar df, of the hinged bar B. having teeth f on its under side, and a locking device for said hinged bar, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination, with the buckle-frame, having the bridge-piece i and keeper D, of the hinged bar B and the pivoted locking-lever G, bearing on the bridge 6 between its ends, substantially as set forth.
5. The frame A, formed with slots b b and toothed holding-bar d, in combination with the hinged bar B, pivoted lever O, and hook or keeper D, all arranged to operate substantially as and for the purposes described.
VICTOR BERTHELOT.
