Be it known that I, ALEX GUsrAvn MALM- STROM, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented certain nen7 and useful lmprovements in Car-Seals,of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marke thereon. f

The object of my invention is to provide a cheaply-constructed car-seal which can be locked by hand Without requiring the use of any speciallyconstructed tool or implement of any kind and which cannot be unlocked exclept by cutting the loop or breaking the sea My invention consists of the usual metallic loop or strap and a seal, in which one end of the loop is originally permanently fastened and which has a pocket that has locking-hooks inserted therein projecting from its sides'in such manner that when the originally free perforated end of the strap is inserted in the pocket its withdrawal is prevented, substantially as hereinafter fully described, and as illustrated in the drawings, in Which- Figure l is a perspective viewr of my invention. Referring to the drawings, A represents a narrow strap or loop of sheet metal, one end of which is permanently secured in the seal B, preferably by being molded therewith, as

vshown in the drawings, and the other end C preferably of a rectangular shape, and it. is recessed longitudinally from one end, so as to form a' pocket d of such Width as to freely admit the insertion of end C of theloop. Placed and permanently secured Within this pocket is the look D. This lock consists of a U-shaped strip of sheet metal of about the same Width as the pocket d. Itis originally made of a single length twice the depth of the pocket, and it is bent double, so that one of the legs lr thus formed Will lie fiat against one side of Vsaid pocket and the other leg 7a will lie flat against the other broad side thereof in such manner that when the free end of the strap or loop is inserted in the seal it will pass between said legs. Now in order to prevent the withdrawal of end C when inserted in the seal I have provided both of said legs h and 7a with a hook e and g, respectively, which preterably consist ot' tongues stamped out of said legs, the free ends of which project inward a slight distance and then extend longitudinally toward the closed end of the pocket. When the end C of theloop is pushed into the pocket, it forces the hooks back out of the way; but when the ends of said hooks come next or in register with the openings c and b of said end they spring through them and prevent the Withdrawal of said end. l can, if desired, dispense with one of said hooks, although I much prefer the use of both. If desirechl can provide one or both of the hooks h and 7n with a slight spur oc near their extremity, which will catch under the end edge of end C or the adjacent edge of the openingb, as shown. This serves, after the end C is once caught and held by the hooks, to prevent any longitudinal movement of the said end.

What I claim as nenr is 1. As an' article of manufacture a car-seal consisting of a suitable strap orloop, a suitable metallic seal having a pocket therein, and a U-shaped strip of metal secured in said pocket having a tongue or hook projecting from each leg of the saine into and toward the closed end of said pocket and said hooks each being provided With a spur projecting from near its free extremity backward toward its secured end, said strap having one end permanently secured to said seal and the other provided with an opening therein so that IOO when thrust in said pocket, said hooks will are provided with spurs which point toward catch and with the aid of said spurs eieetuthe secured end thereof, and said loop having ally look the same. one end permanently secured in said seal,and
