Description
(Nd Model.) I F. BLAZIER.
STUMP PULLER. No. 322,781. M Patented July 21, 1885.
WITNESSES NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
FREDR-IOK BLAZIER, OF ROYALTON, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS TO CURTIS H. TOWN, OF SAME PLACE, AND RACHEL BLAZIER, OF MUOKWA, WIS.
STUMP-PULLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,781, dated July 21,1885. Application filed June 11', 1885. (N model.)
To all whom it may concern: a
Be it known that I, FREDRIGK BLAZIER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Royalton, in the county of Waupaca and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stump-Pullers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had'to the accompanying drawing, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in stump-extractors; and it consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
I have illustrated my invention, in the accompanying drawing by a perspective view, in which A represents a tripod, which consists of beams at aa, thoroughly braced to each other, said beams entering sockets in the cappiece a, which is provided with a central. opening, through which passes the end of a bail, b, which carries a pulley or sheave, b. The lower ends of the beams a a a rest upon blocks 0 0, said beams being braced to each 0 other by bars 0 c.
' To the outer edges of the upper portion of the beams a a a, which rest upon the block 0, are attached bearings d (1, within which is journaled a shaft, D, which shaft has attached to its outer end a bull-wheel, E, the circumference of which is provided with a groove, 6. The shaft D is also provided, between the bearings d d, with flanges f f, and said shaft between the flanges may have attached thereto 0 a drum.
A rope, B, is attached to a loop formed in the lower end of the bail b, which rope passes over or around a small pulley, 9, after which it is carried around the pulley b, and from 4 5 thence over a larger pulley, g, the end being attached to the drum, which is located on the shaft D between the flanges f f. The pulleys g y are pivoted between the side pieces of a bail, G, the lower end of which bail is looped for the reception of hooks or claws G, which are adapted to clutch either the stump or chains, which may be made fast to said stump.
To the upper edge of the block Ois attached a pulley, h, and a rope, H, is attached to the periphery of the wheel E, which rope passes 5 5 around the edge of said wheel, and from thence is carried under the pulley h.. To the end of this rope the horses or other power, asa windlass, may be attached.
The wheel E has attached to one side of the same a projecting rim or flange, K, around which passes an endless belt or rope, k, the lower portion of which is passed under the pulley h, attached to the upper edge of the beam O. This endless rope or beltk is for the 6 5 purpose of winding the ropeH upon the outer periphery of the Wheel E, said movement being caused by drawing or pulling upon the endless rope in the proper direction.
The operation of my invention is as follows: When the hook G is made fast to the stump to be removed, the rope H is drawn away from the tripod or support, which movement will cause the rotation of the wheel E, so as to wind the rope B upon the drum to which the large wheel is attached, and by the construction of the parts and the arrangement of the pulleys it will be readily seen that the power will be greatly multiplied.
It will be readily seen that when the stump has been raised the pulleys g b will be brought near each other, and the rope H partly unwound from the large wheel, and that by moving the pulleys downwardly, so as to attach them to a stump or other object, the rope will be again wound around the large wheel, so as to be in position ready for use.
I claim I 1. In astump-extractor, a tripod having attached to its apex a looped bail, which carries a pulley, bearings d d supporting a horizontal shaft, to which is attached a wheel, D, in (30111- bination with the bail G, having pulleys g g, the ropes B and H, and pulley h, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a stump-extractor, a tripod suitably supported upon blocks, and provided with a cap-piece, a, with a central perforation, to which cap-piece is attached a bail, b, which carries a pulley, b, the bearings d d, within which is journaled the shaft D, having flanges ff, located within said bearings, the outer end of said shaft carrying a wheel, E, the periphcry of which is grooved, a bail, G, having attached thereto pulleys g g, and a hook, G, pulley h attached at the base of the tripod, and ropes B H, the parts being organized and combined substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a stump extractor, a tripod carrying at its upper portion awheel having its periphery recessed, as shown, a flange or projecting portion, K, secured thereto, said flange being adapted to receive an endless belt or rope, is, which passes through the pulley h, secured to the frame, in combination with a rope, H, at-
tached to the wheel E, the rope B, which passes over one or more pulleys, and a drum located on the shaft of the wheel E, the parts being constructed and organized substantial] y as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
